It's worth keeping in mind that his is one of the crops after his champion freshman sire win. So, this is probably the best group of mares he's ever had.
It should be interesting to see if this mirrors Maria's Mon career. Started off with rather average mares, hit big with Monarchos, the mare quality increased for two seasons, but during the time before those foals hit the track, his numbers slacked off because the average mares foals were on the track.
It's an actual trend you can take advantage of during the sales you if you spot it early enough.

Mali, yes and no.
His first crop was 2yos of 2003, so the "Folklore effect" wouldn't have happened until the spring of 2004 and wouldn't have been born until the spring of 2005.
Well Armed and Thor's Daughter are 2003 models, and Bear Now and Tough Tiz's Sis are 2004 models. They're now 4 and 5 years old and really starting to turn up the heat. If anything, it supports the theory that they get better as they age. The 2005 crop is looking hot, but there were quality horses coming out before that.
I think he's always had potential, but the question was who to breed to him? He's like Invasor or Indian Charlie--your garden variety Kentucky-bred mare is not necessarily going to be a good fit for him.
At least three of his good stakes winners being out of mares with close-up California lines that are known to work with his dad (In Excess, Pirate's Bounty, and Turkoman), another stakes winner whose daddy is from a sire line known to work with his family (Notebook, a son of Well Decorated), and other stakes winners who reinforce one of the strongest speed lines in his family through a seriously classy mare (all the Storm Cat descendants doubling up on Papila).

No.
Tiznow's first foals were BORN in 2003, and did not turn 2YO until 2005, the year Folklore won the BC Juvenile Fillies as a member of his first crop.
The "Folklore effect" would have happened in the spring of 2006, making those resulting foals yearlings of 2008.

Taff, did you see the race? I'm interested in the filly that placed 2nd as I own her half-sister. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the info, and the link! I appreciate it.
Back to the subject of Tiznow, yes, he's having a great year. We're very happy to have a mare in foal to him for 2009.
