CHESTER HOUSE and EMPIRE MAKER

I notice that deceased sire Chester House's numbers have continued to improve. His current world-wide earnings place him 12th on the General Sire List with average earnings per runner of $77,616 and an impressive 13.9 % stakes winners from starters -- exceeded only by Storm Cat's 17.3 % and AP Indy's 16.7 %. Obviously his get have improved as they've matured -- perhaps worth remembering before giving up too soon on the offspring of his 5/8 brother-in-blood, Empire Maker.

Aren't EM's foals just 3 this year? How can someone give up on him after one crop?

Of course I never meant to imply that Empire Maker has already been found wanting as a sire.

I'm simply pointing out that if his offspring don't prove themselves right off the bat as two and three year olds -- which unfortunately is what impatient American racing seems to demand -- just give them some more time and they may very well prove themselves down the road as the Chester Houses have.

If Empire Maker is a 5/8 brother to Chester House what is Civilisation's relationship to Chester House??

I just looked at the generial Sire list on The Bloodhorse and that list has him # 9.
It also said his 99 starters have won $4,298,538 which I believe is $43,400 per starter. And 14 stakes winners out of 99 starters yields 14.1% stakes winners from starters

What am I missing here?/

I must be missing something here:

The Thoroughbred Times does indeed list Chester House's avearge earnings per starter as $77,616; HOWEVER it also lists Chester House with 95 starters and $4,159,693 in earnings>

$4,159,693 divided by 95 yields an average of $43,787 per starter not $77,616 per starter.

Maybe TB racing uses some other method of calculation average earnings per starter other than dividing total earnings by total starters.

Griff:

The way I read the chart, the 70+K is lifetime earnings per starter and the 43K is for this year.

12 Chester House, 95, by Mr. Prospector Dead 95/52 14/18 Ventura (566,997) 4,159,693 3 72 13.9% 77,616

griff:

Civilisation is a 3/4 brother-in-blood to Chester House.

The Chester Houses keep on winning. Yesterday 4YO Phoenix Tower ran 2nd to the European hero horse, Duke of Marmelade, in the 10fT Juddmonte International (Eng-G1). 6YO Spring House won the 11fT Del Mar H. (G2). And for good measure 5YO Remain Silent won the $100,000 Mr. Jenny H. at only 5fT at Philadelphia Park.

His fillies may well turn out to be valuable broodmares.

Are all his winners older horses?

Nowadays they are. He had his last crop in 2004. Dunno how many were early winners back in the day--Divine Park won the Withers at 3 so that's the only high profile one under 4 I can recall. His numbers keep improving and the only ones to do that left are 4+ years.
