Any opinions on him as a stallion? Has anybody seen him?

Try doing a search for "West Acre" and you'll get links to a series of discussion threads about this stallion that were posted in his first or second year at stud. Then you can compare comments/expectations with what you see/stats, to the extent they exist.

I did a search and there does not seem to be any topics dedicated to West Acre. A couple of comments by bacassidy here and there.

I've only seen him once and I haven't seen any of his offspring, but from what I remember, he was a big horse with some nice bone, thick through the neck and shoulders and maybe a touch weak behind.

This is from memory though. I do think he's putting up good numbers for his opportunity and I wouldn't be shocked if he made himself a good broodmare sire if you could find a filly with some family behind her.

Take a look at Saratoga this past week--saw a West Acre romp on Thursday I believe, there were actually two West Acres in the race. And his bottom end is spectacular--look at that female line! The only question I had is why didn't he race? Just curious on that one, because his bloodline is very nice, and he's very well priced.

Vinny's Wild Tale won the 5th at Saratoga on Thursday. That was the first time I heard of West Acre. He was obviously a Claiborne castoff by his bottom. The farm manager where he is standing did not know why he was unraced.

At the end of 2007, he had a decent AEI to CI Index (1.43 to 1.28) without a strong state program behind him.

My friend paid $5000 for a filly at the OBS sale a few years ago.. She goes on to run a 0 Rag number up in NY he sells her for $500,000 , the same guy buys another one the following year for 5,000 he ends up selling that one for $250,000. Jeff Mullins in CA paid 158,000+ at OBS last year for a West Acre filly. I have seen alot of good filly, unsure of the colts. I believe he is a bargain at $5,000. He stands in Williston Fl at Stonehedge 352-528-4951. I used to live down the road from them, since moved to Louisiana to get in the LA breeding program...

West Acre is one of my favorite FL stallions. He didn't race because he is very crooked - like he laid in his dam funny, not a genetic thing. That's also why you don't see photos or walking video of him. He is a very nice looking horse with a lot of substance and good balance.

Stonehedge Farm is a wonderful farm and very good to deal with, but they aren't really playing the commercial game.

He's 3/4 to Pearch who produced a 2005 yearling colt that sold for $2.9 million in the 2006 Keeneland September sale

I think its far more significant that Preach produced Pulpit rather than another in a long line of expensive Storm Cat flops.

He is also 3/4 to Yarn who produced Tale of the Cat who is NOT an expensive Storm Cat flop.

I bought one that I named He Biscuit in FLA for 10K. He was an awesome prospect. In his first out he had crushed the field and was up by 10 or so and took a very bad step. He limped home (82 Beyer) and never raced again. If I had a mare that threw staight foals I'd love him for breed to race. Breed to sell is a different story.

I agree with you bad sales for his weanling & yearling sales, but his 2 year old fillies sell well, just have to cut off the tail get a filly I guess, LOL

Unless I am mistaken, West Acre does not have a single entry in the Keeneland September sale. Hard to be less commercial than that.

Hes wonderful. Underappreciated. If you want to get a runner West Acre is a very good choice, especially at the price. The only knock is alot of his horses pretty much sprinters, and often grass sprinters. With the carpet being laid he should be better recieved. Nobody with any sense would talk you off of West Acre.
