I remember Hi Teck Man as a racer - about 5 years ago I think. Always struck by the fact that he came from Claudius - a hard knocking NY (and Fla I believe) runner. He popped up and won a big one in the southwest somewhere. Glad to see that a great grandson of Majestic Light is doing well...

HI TECK MAN won the WinStar Derby in New Mexico - that's the big one you're thinking of. He was, like his sire Claudius, an honest hard trying race horse.

It would seem both HI TECK MAN and his sire have the genetic potential for Precocity and are able to pass that along.
