I see Millennium Wind is being relocated to Louisiana. Do you think he'll have more success than he did in NY? Is it just me or is Louisiana getting an awful lot of other states' reject stallions?

They sure have, I hope the breeders there have enough sense to stay away from these rejects.

He only coved 1 one in NY last year so I guess a move was nessiary. I dont know why any breeder in LA would want to use this horse.

I agree Sock.

I think LA is now ranked 3rd in number of stallions in the US surpassing Flordia. What I do not understand is how these stallions are going to get mares. More and more LA breeders are breeding out of state, reducing the number of mares available to LA stallions. Then factor in the economy. The small breeders are getting out of the business so I think there will be a signifigant reduction there also. I guess time will tell.

It's like La has become to stallions what NJ is to trash.... (Sorry to all the NJers out there - it was too good of an analogy! ) The decent rejects like Kafwain go to CA or NY but the completely crappy ones go to La. Why not PA? They've got a good program and could use some more rejects besides Buddha.

The other thing that really stands out is despite having one of the densest stallion populations, La doesn't get many horses straight from the track. FL is a stallion proving ground, but it seems like La is becoming a stallion dumping ground. Why is that?

My Opinion. Let's take Brahms for example, he has produced a recent graded stakes winner (Arson Squad). How many LA stallions have produced graded stakes horses at all? I can name two off the top of my head Afternoon Deelites (Zappa) & Sefapiano (Jonesboro) but I know there are a few more. When you put these guys up agaist our current stallion rosters and they fall into the top 10 it gets peoples attention. Especially the breeders that go after the flavor of the month.

Like it was said they may be rejects in the lake but in the pond they are now the big fish! Sometimes you just have to find the right market.
