Stallion Seasons Auctions for 2009

Postby Roguelet » Sat Nov 08, 2008 12:06 pm

This is a thread where information about all the upcoming stallion seasons auctions can be posted. This was recommended by a forum member, who commented that "it's that time of year again" and creating a thread such as this might be helpful for those who are searching for good deals on stud fees.

I'll go first: the ITOBA stallion seasons auction is coming up; here is a current list of donated seasons:
http://www.itoba.com/2009%20SSA%20List.htm

That's a preliminary list, and more details are coming very soon about this auction. That list gets updated almost daily, so keep checking the link for new additions.

Meanwhile, here's some information about the stakes bonus program that goes along with the ITOBA stallion seasons auction: http://www.itoba.com/Stallion%20Auction%20Program%20Details.pdf

He is new to the farm for 2009, I would imagine he will be on their web site soon. As a matter of fact, the owner just forwarded me a picture to include on our stallion listings... I will get it added shortly.

For California breeders, there's GEVA's auction:

http://www.puzzlesngames.com/geva/stallionauction.asp

And Tranquility Farms' fundraiser:

Here is a preliminary list of stallion seasons donated to the Iowa Stallion Season auction: http://www.iowathoroughbred.com/2008auc ... onList.pdf

There is still time to donate your stallion! Progeny of all the stallions sold at the auction are eligible for the Iowa Stallion stakes races. This year's Futurity had a purse of $111,000! This is a good way for your stallion to earn black type while also promoting your stallions and helping the Iowa thoroughbred owners and breeders. There is also up to a $20,000 bonus to the stallion owner available and a $10,000 bonus to the mare owner.

AN update and reminder on the TEXAS THOROUGHBRED ASSOCIATION STALLION SEASON AUCTION -

http://www.texasthoroughbred.com/Deskto ... ?TabID=159

Only a few days remain before this stallion season auction closes. To find out more information about each stallion who whom a season has been donated enter the Auction Site and then click on that Stallion's name on the left hand side - it will take you to an individual page for that stallioin which usually includes basic information as to where the stallion is standing (going to stand if new to Texas) and contact information such as a link to that farm's/stallion's website and/or a phone number for the Farm/Stallion Manager. Some of the entrants may reflect and initial CLOSE date of Oct. 27th at the Listing of Stallions on the Active Auction page - please note that only those stallions whose reserve had been met as of that earlier session are no longer available for bidding in this extended BID PERIOD soon to close. They are reflected by the note "CLOSED" to the column on the far right of that stallion's entry once you enter the Auction Site.

*************************************************************
I would also note that several of the stallions are in the process of moving to farms in Texas as noted in the exerpt from Ex. Director Dave Hooper's Weekly Update report from the TTA site below:

"TTA STALLION SEASON AUCTION ENDS NOVEMBER 19; OTHER DEADLINES NEAR
The deadline for bidding in the 2009 Texas Thoroughbred Association Online Stallion Season Auction is next Wednesday, November 19.

Several new seasons have been added since the first round of bidding closed. They include seasons to leading Texas stallion Valid Expectations and top sprinter Too Much Bling, both standing at Lane’s End Texas. They also include an opportunity to bid on seasons to three stallions new to Texas, C’Mon Tiger, Going Wild and Migrating Moon, who are getting ready to stand in the Lone Star state in 2009.

C’Mon Tiger and Going Wild are quartered at Jim and Marilyn Helzer’s JEH Stallion Station Texas Division in Pilot Point. C’Mon Tiger, a stakes-placed son of Storm Cat, is a half-brother to two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and former Horse of the Year Tiznow, who ranks among North America’s leading sires. Going Wild, a stakes winner of $501,700, kept the best of stakes company as a 3-year-old and continued to earn more stakes credentials the succeeding three years. C’Mon Tiger will stand for $3,000 and Going Wild commands a $2,500 stud fee.

Migrating Moon has been purchased by Bruce Grider, who will stand the son of Silver Buck out of the Medieval Man mare Medieval Moon at his Fast Break Farm in Mabank for $1,000. Migrating Moon won nine of his 18 starts and earned nearly $400,000. His offspring have included Lunar Bounty, winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs for Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, and several other stakes horses. Migrating Moon’s runners have passed the $5-million mark in cumulative earnings."

*************************************************************

Folks - There are some nicely bred stallions of proven race capability that are now proven young Sires that have demonstrated their capability to produce winners/SWs still young in their careers and well supported by their connections available in this auction as well as some solid and well regarded Sires of many successful crops and stallions just starting their careers or with offspring that have not hit the tracks yet. There are also seasons to stallions in this auction who stand in Louisiana, Kentucky, Florida and other states available to bid upon.

************************************************************

Finally - Notice of another Stallion Season Auction here in Texas - When you click on the link that I provided (in my earlier post and at the start of this post, above) you will be directed to a TTA page detailing the Rules of their Auction/Registration process, etc. From there you must click on another link that takes you into the Active Auction site with the donated Stallion's listed and the details as to current bids, where standing and contact information/website links in most cases. At the top of both TTA Auction pages you will also see a very bold and colorful banner ad at the top of the page for another stallion season auction, the Legends Premier Stallion Season Auction benefiting Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciencess, specificly research on Stallion Reproductive Studies. There are seasons donated to this Auction for both Racing QHs, TBs and Western Pleasure Stallions. The bidding for this auction will be held Dec. 1-19, 2008 with bids beginning at 80% of published stud fees.

SO check out both Auctions from this one link - and best of luck to all who bid!!

Are most of the stallion season auctions typically for non-guaranteed seasons, or does it vary by auction? I am most interested in CA auctions.

Thx,
Pav

Pav-most stallion season auctions are for no-guarantee seasons. Check with the auction, though, as the donator can offer the season as live-foal or no-guarantee. I have been very fortunate in that all of the stallions that I have "won" have been live-foal seasons. The GEVA auction is going on right now and ends on December 2nd. Here is the link to the auction: http://www.puzzlesngames.com/geva/stallionauction.asp
