Holy Ground to Argentina
That is Barbaro's older brother in case anyone is going HOly WHO? I'm bummed because he was one of my favorites. I noticed he was off Bridlewood's site so I wrote and asked and she said he's fine and relocated.
Did I miss something or was this not announced??

I also notice Lightnin N Thunder is off their site and am wondering if he's relocated. He never generated much interest but he did have the winner of the $400,000 My Dear Girl division of the Florida Stallion Stakes this year.

Last week I queried Bridlewood Farm about the absence of Lightnin N Thunder on its site. Judy Little sent this reply:
"We are in the process of finalizing our stallion roster, and at this point we do not expect to stand LIGHTNIN N THUNDER for the 2009 season. Please feel free to check back with us next month as things can always change."
My guess is that this is somehow the result of his having only 47% live foals and only covering 13 mares this year.

Bridlewood gets some pretty poor live foal percentages on a number of their stallions. Black Mambo, Indian Ocean, Put It Back, Lightnin N Thunder, Mr. Livingston, Great Pyramid and Sabre D' Argent were all below 60% this year. That tells you there's an element of human error there and it's not all the stallions. I've heard first hand accounts of their breeding shed crew in action that confirm this as well.
I'm sure it's possible that it's human error. I was wondering if it's also possible they can only afford difficult-to-breed stallions if they're gonna get names at all and take a risk to do that in the hope the they'll either get the hang of it or score a big enough horse to make it worth the effort.

I bred to Put It Back this year. The mare is in foal on one cover. The shed was fine - no problems and he is a good breeding horse, especially when you consider the number of mares reported bred to him - 156. Funny, they said they were "limiting" his book to approved mares only. That is a lot of approvals. Very disappointing - that is the last thing I wanted to see - 50 or 60 weanlings in the fall sales.
