Birdstone
Any thoughts on this guy... doing very well with only 62 runners (half as many as most other freshman sires). Also, interesting inbreeding if you have a storm cat family mare. You would inbreed to Storm Bird, but NOT storm cat... it's a Storm Bird mare. Thoughts?

Yes, Birdstone is definitely a cutie, as is Mine That Bird ... tell you what I absolutely LOVE ... Medaglia d'Oro, Tapit and Birdstone are all siring some top-notch racehorses at a fraction of the stud fee of (drum roll, please!) Smarty Jones, whose first couple of years at stud were at $100,000 a pop. Three Chimneys is desperately trying to generate some interest in Smarty with strip ads that proclaim he's had this winner and that winner ... but the bottom line is, he has no graded stakes winners in this country thus far, and just a sprinkling of allowance and maiden special weight winners this year. I liked Smarty as a racehorse, but I always thought that his $100K stud fee was obscene and downright greedy by the syndicate that owns him, and now his commercial value and appeal is probably completely shot. All hail Birdstone for knocking one out of the park yesterday!

Gainesway sure hit a home run with Birdstone and Tapit, two smaller athletic looking horses. Maybe people will eventually start looking for that type at the sales now too.
