Quasimodo
He sure is a very nicely bred individual. I wonder what's the story on him (Probably conformation issues) as he had some past class, but no black type to my knowledge. I guess I'll go by and see him when he settles in at West 12. He only beat one horse today. Poor guy, but things will get better once he gets a few girlfriends.

I would think he would be a tough sell in today's economy. There are deals to be had with established stallions in CA. Even if they offered him for free not sure what you would get for a foal since there are others out there that have a record that are being offered inexpensively this year. Several managers that I've talked to say their inquiries are really down this year. And the broodmare ranks at the farms are also lower as many clients have bailed.
So I wish them luck trying to establish their new stallion in this market.

I would definitely agree with you. I guessing that the owners will support the stallion themselves for that very reason.
I personally do not breed to unproven stallions, as I breed to race.

It's not just the economy. I went out to the farm last week to check on the horses and got a dose of harsh reality. There's speculation that the in-state mare population might be down as much as 50% and the Cal breeding program is going off the cliff. The buyers just aren't buying because they wonder if the state will even have racing in 5 years. The day rate's too high for what the bulk of horses run for in SoCal, it's tough to get races to go, there's too much upheaval with musical surfaces and tracks are going out of business. Owning a racehorse has always been a risky indulgence--now its looking positively foolhardy.
It is being felt here in KY also. A KBIF inspector was here a couple of weeks ago to check mares registered in the KBIF program. He told me that many Lexington farms had elected to euthanize a lot of "lesser" mares rather than continue to feed them, having already tried to sell them. Where's the sense, even, in putting a mare in the Jan or Feb sale at a cost of $2000 or so to get the mare sold for $1,000? I think KY will see fewer mares bred this year. Indiana, on the other hand, might see more than 1,000 TB foals born there in 2009. If I could sell my farm, I might seriously consider moving.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
