Soundness Question

Postby vineyridge » Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:16 pm

If you had a horse who was Johannesburg on top and out of an Unbridled mare, would you be concerned about long term soundness for a sport horse?

Where can one find this information? I'd be scared witless to invest in that pedigree for a horse who was expected to run and jump as an eventer. Am I overreacting?

I personally would have a good vet examine the horse in question, and xray anything he/she found questionable. For an eventer, the physical I saw in front of me would mean a great deal more than the breeding.

If you're "scared witless" for whatever reason, that's a good time to walk away.

I think LB is spot on.

However, I would probably still shoot pictures of the knees and ankles regardless of the physical exam just to determine if there are any issues lurking.
