Early picks for 2009 leading fresman sire?

Postby TomFool » Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:10 am

I find this group rather uninspiring overall but someone will have to lead the list here is my thoughts in order
Closing Argument- was a solid but never really flashy 2 year old & 3 year old. Pedigree is filled with speed & has the right 2 year old connections behind him.
Ghostzapper- You cant leave him off this list even though I dont get the idea that he will be a standout 2 year old sire. His sheer brilliance would only have to rub off on one or two who may get really good later in the year.
Limehouse- Not crazy about a son of Grand Slam but Lime was a warrior of a racehorse who was a very good early 2 year old & lasted through that plus Pletcher's barn to make a good older horse as well. I'm not super confident but I'll be rooting for him to make a decent early sire.
Value Plus- Think he may be a mild suprise of this group.
Consolidator- He was a pretty sharp speedy 2 year old, makes my list by default.
Roman Ruler- Another that really does not really excite me but he was also a very good 2 year old and has the numbers.

I'm going to go with Leroi and rock hard ten as a longshot pick

I'm going to go with Afleet Alex. People who have his babies really like them, so we'll see if they can run.

WILDCAT HEIR had 123 reported foals in his first crop. He gets a well balanced attractive individual that should get to the races early and be quick. Mark it down, WILDCAT HEIR will be a top 5 freshman sire in 2009.

I give Eurosilver a decent shot.

As a 2yo graded sw by Unbridled's Song he's got a right to get some who win early.

And he's got something like 147 coming 2yos so he's got the numbers.

And he had some very big sales and his get seemed popular with the pinhookers.

I can really see Wildcat Heir. Purge is from a nice 2 year old sire & sprint producing family but being by Pulpit I just like others more with their 2 year olds but i do believe Purge has a chance to make a worthwhile stallion. I was back & forth on Afleet Alex he of course was himself a very nice 2 year old and overall just special racehorse but I just get the feeling that his will need more time than some I have on my list. Keith, I'm not really sure you understood the question in that I'm not saying the best overall stallion prospect of this group but who will be leading fresman sire of 2009. If I had to bet on just one to head that list it would be Closing Argument after that I'm not so confident with my others.

I like Purge a lot. Have a gorgeous weanling colt by him, so not his first crop, but the ones I saw at Keeneland looked the part. Consolidator also wouldn't surprise me.

I give the Artie Schiller's a shot at coming out running early.

I think With Distinction will top Florida and will be a top five freshman nationwide.

From what I have seen at the sales, Eurosilver and Closing Argument are the most consistent in terms of getting racy looking horses. They would be my early picks.

I expected to see some killer Ghostzappers, but honestly did not. Hopefully they are runners.

I saw a handful of very impressive Rock Hard Tens. Not sure if he will be a two-year-old sire, but he is a sire to watch.

ps I forgot to add my cheap sleeper Medallist. I saw a few fast looking ones.

what are your impressions of ghostzapper himself as a good or bad looking race horse?

I'm actually getting a bronze statue made of ghostzapper.
