I just got a note from Old Friends saying that the nearly black old warrior died suddenly on Christmas Eve. We got to meet him when he first arrived at Old Friends. First, Pidge, now Ruhlmann. Tough few weeks at the retirement home. RIP, old men.

Sad news. How lucky he was to be there in his retirement. RIP

Yes he was. Much better than Clever Allemont.
He was recently saved from a kill pen in Kansas.
The buyer called Winding Road Equine Rescue to look at a mare that was too pretty to ship and she saw Clever Allemont & got him out of there.

The article did not mention if she also saved the mare. I am hoping she did. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Clever Allemont is getting Flying Pidgeon's old spot. Sadly, now that Ruhlmann's gone, I hope there will be another lucky pensioner who can get a nice retirement at Old Friends as well.
I wish we could save all of them, believe me, and Mike Blowen is a saint to do his part as best he can. I'm sure if he had the room and the funds (and the support from the neighboring farms, most of the big breeding operations), he'd make Old Friends 1000 acres with room for many, many more retirees.

We were lucky enough to see him on our trip to KY over the summer. The Blowens are such amazing people and Old Friends an incredible place.
