Does anyone know about this stud? Why he had so few starts or what his temperment and confirmation are like?

Thanks

If this is the stallion by Gone West x Toussaud, he has only one eye and it caused him problem when he raced. I have no idea what he looks like or his conformation.

He stood in WV last year and I belive he's standing there in 2005.

I had an appointment to see him last summer but that fell through. I have seen a picture, either in bloodhorse or in the data base, but hopefully it did not do him justice; i.e., the picture looked more like an old worn out brood mare than a relatively young stallion.

Nice pedigree and I'll probably make another attempt to view him this spring. This is the first time I've had trouble scheduling a visit to a stallion that is advertised at stud.

Griff,

I tried the numbers on his sheet and they're not working. Do you have a contact number that works?

Do you remember if his eye is a deformity or an injury?

Would be nice to hear what kind of foals he throws. He has at least a couple out there already, has anyone seen any of them?

Thanks

He entered stud in 2003 for a fee of $3,500. He only had 3 starts and 0 wins, which may be why breeders have shied away from him.

His farm:

Naylee Farm
Summit Point, West Virginia
P.O. Box 346, Summit Point, WV 25446

CIVILISATION was bred to over SIXTY MARES. At $3,500 per, that's more than a lot of mom-and-pop studs are getting.

Before making an obviously uninformed opinion, based upon nothing, check the Jockey Club foal reports of mares bred, etc.

I would say he was very well received at stud, starting out. There is nothing but upside at this minimal price. Superior family, bred by Juddmonte. Let's see if any of those bought at recent sale wind up being pinhooked, and if they get any attention.

I was using my 2004 Blood-Horse Stallion Registry, not an uniformed decision. I agree, good family, but a very poor race record. I assume he was injured and had to retire. I Personally wouldn't breed to him.

I had heard that one of Toussaud's offspring had a short racing career because he was darn near unmanageable - the story must have been about Civilization, as her other foals ran successfully.

I can't recall where I heard it, or vouch for its accuracy, but given Toussaud's nasty temper it doesn't seem that far-fetched. I'd definitely look into that if temperment is a concern for you.

Wasn't he listed as Free a year or so ago?? I might be wrong.. but I seem to remember something like that...

I wish I could fnd my 2005 BH Stallion Register to read any updates. I am looking forward to seeing how her sons do at stud.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to provide input. I hope Civilisation has a long, healthy and happy life.

It is sounding like he's not going to meet the criteria that I'm looking for and I haven't been able to contact the owner for additional information (bad phone numbers, no response to email)...

I wish others luck if they go to him and it will be interesting to watch how his foals turn out.

Dreamer's Princess,

I'll try to remember to look the number up for you in an old Maryland Horse Stallion issue. Kinda wierd to see a Virginia area code for a West Virginia farm. If you need a number for them sooner, try calling Charles Town (800) 795-7001 and asking for Dickie Moore. He is the racing manager, and his wife Rene handles the farm.

Don't expect them to return phone calls, though. *Rumor* has it they are bad about that.

They are also bad about scheduled appointments to view the stallion. How they ever book 60 mares to this horse is beyond me.

Cathy D - Thanks for the offer, but at this point I think I'd rather wait to see how his foals do on the track.
