Lawyer Ron . . . . . . . Rumor????

Postby Tairaterces » Fri Jun 19, 2009 8:45 am

This is third hand info, but does anyone know about him? Story is that he has had some colic surgeries and is not doing well at Stonewall.

Searched all over the web and can't find anything.

This news was tacked onto the bottom of an article about a lawsuit between the James T. Hines Jr. Estate and Stonewall Stallions on the DRF website

Lawyer Ron recuperating from minor surgery

In related news, Bamberger said Lawyer Ron has been taken out of service for the rest of the breeding season while recovering from surgery to correct a non-life-threatening condition Bamberger called "some kind of a little rupture in the abdominal sac."

The stallion underwent surgery about three weeks ago and had been recovering well but developed a slight fever on June 10. He was shipped back to Woodford Equine Hospital that day, Bamberger said, and veterinarians hoped to return Lawyer Ron to the farm on Saturday.

"Lawyer Ron had a very minor surgery," Bamberger said. "They sewed him back up and he went back to the farm about a week ago."

Bamberger said the stallion returned to the clinic "just for safety reasons. It's not life-threatening, and there's no problem."

Lawyer Ron, a 6-year-old Langfuhr horse, won the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap and Woodward Stakes en route to his divisional title. His first foals were born this year.

Makes me wonder if he had a hernia, specifically an inguinal hernia, but I'm just guessing from what (little) info was posted above. The condition would result in the loss of a testicle, something that a farm would not like to advertise so much about a young stallion.

But generally the condition is sold to the press as a colic surgery without specific details. Who knows, though, and this is how rumors get started. But based on the vague details available, I'm not sure how one can refrain from speculating about it.

Hope Lawyer Ron is does alright, whatever ails him.

Sadly, looks like it was not just a rumor. Lawyer Ron was one of my favorite horses while racing and I had high hopes that he would pass on his durable and tough traits to his foals.

RIP Lawyer Ron.

What a shame. He was one of my favorites. They say his foals are very nice so I look forward to watching them perform in a few years. RIP Ron..

he was really good at 9 furlongs. 1.46 at Saratoga, which isn't really a fast track. He had durability while racing a lot over 3 seasons.

Lawyer Ron RIP

When I heard this news...I was in shock...my father Ron...watched Lawyer Ron and it was really his first racehorse that he kept track of...Dad passed away in May....If I was a betting person ...I know who was at that gate to lead LR to greener pastures. "Dad take good care of Lawyer Ron--you both will be missed dearly"
