out of place
anyone have any knowledge/thoughts about this guy? to me, his catalog picture looks like he needs a couple of hundred lbs. thanks.
He's an old boy that's always been long and lean. It's just not a flattering shot of him.
He also tends to throw that look as well-- big frames without much mass to them.
I have an Out of Place filly I love. I thought he'd show signs of being a better broodmare sire by now, but I'm still holding out hope for the one I have who's a multiple winner.

Re: Out of Place
Dead-on...
...when I first saw Out of Place (many years ago subsequent to his retirement to stud)...he struck me as a tall, long and lean, fluid-looking individual with a VERY beautiful (leaning toward pretty) head, soft eye and lovely somewhat swan-like (if you will) neck
From my perspective...there was nothing coarse and/or thick about OOP, and he possessed qualities that may be described as beautiful and/or pretty.
For what it's worth...I don't recall ever seeing a more beautiful-looking Cox's Ridge than Out of Place. That said...is it unreasonable to suggest that possibly (if not probably) Buckpasser (2nd dam's sire of Out of Place) influenced this guys beautiful/pretty looks/qualities.
Yes he does.
As for what physical type of mare Out of Place does best with...those that are (or are by) somewhat coarse (ala Kris S) and/or thicker/more-powerfully-made physical types (ala Beau Genius)...may suit him VERY well (if not best).
Remember too...the LaCroix's stakes-winning Roberto colt Kris S (a foal of 1977), when retired from racing, stood at their Meadowbrook Farm (Ocala) for many years before Out of Place (a foal of 1987) arrived to stand at the farm.
That likely benefitted OOP since Meadowbrook (among others) owned many daughters of Kris S, and some were obviously bred to Out of Place. The results speak for themselves.
Respectfully
