Cool Quaker

I tried on the research forum but didn't get very far, so I thought I'd try here. I'm looking for information on this guy, other than general stats, which are easy to find.
For example, I was told he may have held a track record for 13 years, but can't find any information on that. I can't find any old race pictures or any "neat tidbits" about him anywhere. Does anyone have any information about this stallion, or know anything about this track record... or maybe even knew him or worked with him?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Where is he located? I own a half-sister to his dam. Love her and what she throws.

His BRIS report shows that he equalled a track record for 8.5f at Fair Grounds in '94 (1:42.2). By the 2003 American Racing Manual, that record had been beaten....so, no on the 13 years.

Perhaps the record he equalled had stood for that long?

At the moment, in my barn.
Thanks, Lucy... I was thinking a 13-year track record would be really cool, but equalling a track record is still pretty nice...

Will you be standing him? I find the close inbreeding to their 2nd dam interesting.

According to the article Cool Quaker's record was broken by Master Command.
"Velazquez also rode favored Master Command to victory in the Grade 3 $200,000 Mineshaft Handicap... Master Command covered the 1 1-16 miles in 1:42.25, breaking Cool Quaker's 13-year old stakes record of 1:42.55."

Speaking about long standing track records by a gray I think that RESTLESS CON's (1987) record of 1:39 2/5 for 8-1/2 furlongs on dirt at Golden Gates still stands. By the way this is the world record for a gray at that distance.

Thank you for finding the information on that track record... that's pretty impressive!

It's possible; right now I'm gathering information about him and then we'll make a decision on that.

I was finally able to get a picture of Cool Quaker!
This picture was taken in 1992; he won this race, going 1 1/16 miles, by 12 lengths. Of course, you have to imagine him dipped in a bucket of white paint to know what he looks like now, 17 1/2 years later.

I LOVE this guy and just saw him last summer. Im assuming you got him from the owner here in Ohio? He looked fabulous when I saw him and actually considered breeding to him if he still had him this year. I saw many of his offspring at the same farm and was very impressed with the bone and disposition he put on them. Came very close to buying a big grey daughter of his but my sanilty overrode her beauty thank the lord LOL!
Good luck with him.

Do you have any current photos of him? I would love to see one as well as some details about his physical.
I'm tempted to try some close inbreeding to him with a mare I have or one of her daughters.
Also, what are the specifics of the Indiana breeders program? I googled and searched the Indiana site but didn't find broodmare specifics. I'm sure I wasn't looking in the right areas. But what is that rule? When do they have to be in the state and do they have to breed back to an Indiana stallion? Or can they be bred to out of state stallions and foals dropped in Indiana?

Indiana has rules as follows:
INDIANA BRED
Mare must be in IN by Nov 1st, all paperwork filed, etc., and foal drop in Indiana for foal in her to be INDIANA BRED
OR
Mare can enter prior to foaling, be bred back to IN stallion, remain 30 days, be inspected, and the foal in her will be INDIANA BRED - for example, I'm sending a mare up to Roguelet May 4th or so to foal and be bred back, so her Rocking Trick foal will be Indiana bred...
INDIANA SIRED
Rules as above, and foal must be by IN stallion.

So as long as the mare is in State by Nov 1 once she foals you can breed her to a stallion out of State.
Excellent. Thanks for that, Madelyn.
