State sire lists

Postby Bohemia » Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:06 am

So I went on the Thoroughbred Times web site today and clicked on the state sire list for Pennsylvania. Lo and behold guess who is the leading sire in Pennsylvania, even though he has YET to step foot in the Keystone State? Yup, Jump Start, who vaults to the top with earnings of $3.9 million. I just hate the way these lists are compiled, they are so misleading. I think the criteria for inclusion onto a state's sire list is having stood a minimum of one breeding season in that state. Even so, Cat Thief was the former leader and he has yet to have any of his Pa-bred progeny hit the track.

The Brisnet compilations may help. They are sires of state breds. Now not all of these sires are resident in Pa, (i.e. Smart STrike) but its easy enough to go down the list to look for the PA stallions.

I think "earnings per starter" is a better measurement than total earnings.

The Mid Atlantic Thoroughbred has page devoted to Mid Atlantic stallions and it does list earnings per starter as well as total earnings
