I noticed his first crop Keeneland September sales results were all over the board. Was this just the weirdness of this sale or is he not throwing consistent foals?

I think it is a combination of overall sales results being very disappointing and also that he is an unproven stallion. You really don't know what those horses that sold for < 10k looked liked. They may have had their legs on backwards or something. I think what is more surprising are the results for the Birdstone foals. He IS a proven stallion and still had fairly desultory results at the sale. I suspect, like Birdstone himself, his foals are not particularly attractive, especially as yearlings.

birdstone fee
Pretty hard to predict anything in this market. As you are probably aware, the median price in the Keeneland September sale was down ~ 40% from last year and ~ 52% from the year before. I doubt if ANY stallions will raise their fees but if anybody deserves to, it would certainly be Birdstone. A Derby winner and a Belmont winner in his first crop!!! Some really great stallions never have that in their entire career. Nevertheless, I will be surprised if his fee goes up substantially. Maybe from 10k to 15K. Curious what everyone else thinks.

OK, griff, maybe the legs are not on backwards but surely you don't think that all the horses in the September Keeneland sale are perfectly conformed. Check out Hip #7, an A.P. Indy that sold for 65K. Now, he SOLD for 65K which means the reserve was lower than that. A.P.'s stud fee is 250K. You really think that there was not something pretty significantly wrong with this foal to SELL for 65K?
