Ok here's my interest lately as far as Lousiana stallions go. I'm just wondering about other peoples opinions and what type mares would cross well with him for a regional market.
Thanks in advance.

sulphurfire, this is mostly personal opinion (so take it with a grain of salt) but if I were breeding LA breds, I'd definitely be going to Leestown. He's a son of Seattle Slew and 1/2 to Grand Slam. I haven't seen the stallion in person, but from his pics he looks to be put together a lot better conformation-wise than some of the Seattle Slew's I have seen. I don't know if he's straight or if he throws straight babies.

I believe I read in one of the trade magazines that he recently had a big winner in one of the LA stakes. If so, I'd research the cross that produced this SW as a starting point for potential nicks. When you're looking, consider the balanced Bold Ruler on the extreme top and bottom of his pedigree (sire of the 3rd dam and sire of "3rd sire" - tail male). His progeny listing on this database seems to indicate some success with Carson City and Runaway Groom.

He's a fairly young sire, so seems you would have some upside potential to breed commercially (on a regional basis), and a solid pedigree to produce your own runners as well. JMHO

Best of luck to you with your selections,
Laurie

Yes, Leestown is a very nice stallion. He's produced 2 stake winners that
I am sure of

1. Old Lee - Old Timely Gal / Runaway Groom
2. St. Roch - Apache Ruckus / Dehere

And a really nice filly running now "Indigo Girl" she made about 50k or
60k 2004
