Here's the link. I like that Offlee Wild is only $7,500!

I'm ok with Offlee Wild at 7500 as breed to race, ok with Medaglia, Street Cry and Elusive Q because this top echelon it's not as important to set the fee where it makes perfect sense, ok with Quiet American, but the rest way way too high still.

Wasn't to be unexpected, surprise is that Bernadini was dropped.
With what sons of Elusive Quality have sired in Europe (and with Raven's Pass win in the "Classic") surprised his fee wasn't bumped to $100,000+

Hard Spun, Quiet American, E Dubai and Holy Bull look like great buys in the under $50k range, aside from Street Sense the above $50k looks about right

I love Hard Spun, and Offlee Wild does seem like good value at 7500. Offlee Wild, unlike many of the stallions under discussion (including Hard Spun) at least has a record of producing some winners. I agree about Bernardini, I think they could probably have strung the high price out for at least another year, till his foals get onto the track.

I hear there are some really awful Bernardini foals.....

The market is off by 30% Did they drop their fees by 30%? I don't think so. I only have seen a few Bernardini's and they were all spectacular. Of course that was at the sales. Darley hiding the bad ones? Just got a flyer from Vinery for the grand viewing of Pioneer of the Nile. He is standing for only 20,000 is'nt that great! I put the flyer in the magazine rack next to my toilet in case I need something to read, or run out of toilet paper. These stallion companies have zero respect for the small breeder no matter how succesful you have been. I hate this time of year argueing with them over stud fees.

Well, El Camino, look on the bright side. At least you have nice pictures to look at from the comfort of your bathroom.

When I was a kid I loved cutting out the pictures and putting them on smaller posterboard. You could always combine that with some of the other flyers.....

I did the same thing Tappiano! I also drew jockey's silks, so fondly called by my sister "little men."

Hmm... I'm just now realising that my bathroom could be a considerably more interesting place to spend time in than it is now.

Seriously though, El Camino, although I sympathise with the concerns of the small breeder (from the comfort of my armchair where I know nothing but can form an opinion on anything), surely there are stallion bargains to be found even if they are not at Darley?

It seems as though most 2010 stud fees have not yet been released, but I would expect that there will be some good prices to be expected from studs that do not have infinite funds to back up their operations. I imagine that Birdstone will go up in price, but not through the ceiling like Medaglia D'Oro, because no matter how many good racers he sires, he's always going to be small and plain which doesn't bode well for sales.

I thought Smoke Glacken, at 17.5k and average earnings per starter of just under 70k was good value this year and wouldn't be surprised if he dropped further. Grade 1 winner Idiot Proof is going to be standing for 1500k and while I don't necessary like Idiot Proof, his price is more indicative of current conditions, I think, than are the Darley prices.

Sheik Mohammed and his brother Sheik Hamdam gave US breeders the option over the past 10-15 years to use cheap stallions and they shunned them.

The start to price their stallions high and people use them, why?

Because when the clowns that advise buyers and tell them nah don't look at that horse his by a $10K sire check this baby out he is by a $100K sire imagine how much money you could make if you hit a home run, you won't make it on the horse by the $15k sire.

Your analysis is sadly accurate Dublino, and all the sadder because many of the high priced stallions are not proven at the race track.

Well here's the deal. Despite it all I've gone ahead and booked my Slew City Slew mare ( Bali Hai ) to E Dubai. So she'll make the trip back to Darley after delivering a hopefully healthy 1st. foal by Holy Bull in Jan 2010. E Dubai at $10K - yeah I can go for that !

You didn't sign a contract to actually pay 10,000 did you? He was trading for less then that last year. I am sure a million bloodstock agents can get you a better deal then that.
