Zensational

"Zensational is a horse that got my full attention when breaking his maiden in spectacular fashion in a hand ride," said Sikura. "He has accomplished as a 3-year-old what no horse ever has. He is a rare and special racehorse with the kind of brilliance that defines great sires."

Zensational is definitely over hyped. I think he is a very fast and exciting sprinter to watch. Some observations; At Saratoga (MSW 06 Aug 08) Kensei collarded Zen (who ran the quarter in a smoking 21.85) at about a half mile and would not go away and Zen had enough at the eigth pole, finishing 4th.

Zen really prefers the west coast surfaces (artificial) and broke his maiden at 3 in Feb 09 at Santa Anita. The last two of the 3 G1 he won, (both at Del Mar), had 5 horse fields and none of his G1s had the quality of the B.C., where he ran 5th. Yes he was blocked in and did have a bad post, but was swung out in the stretch and could not match the leaders.

Three G1's in a roll is very impressive in itself, but he did not face the best sprinters in the country either. When going a mile in an allowance at Santa Anita, he tired very badly and held on to run 2nd (27 Mar 09) in a 4 horse field.

I'm scared to think what his fee may have been if he won the B.C.

I'll go out on a limb and disagree with John Sikura's belief that he has brilliance that defines great sires. I like Zensational alot but I'm not having any of his Kool aid.

In addition to all of the above I don't care for Zensational because I hardly consider the Unbridled's Song line to be a source of soundness in the breed.

I wonder if Dancing in Silks would be throwing a few hind lefts if she was sent to a stallion that she whipped in the BC Sprint? I remeber another horse Hill and Dale was promoting up here who was an allowance winner, 4 starts... they promoted him by using a Baffert quote saying "he would have been a graded winner if he didn't get hurt in his stall". That's like me trying to pick up a girl by saying "I would have played fullback for the Giants if I could have shaved a second off my 40"...Oh ya thanks for bringing up the who Unbridled Song aspect of this horse geo, just adds to the shocking book this horse will get.

Uh, Dancing in Silks is a gelding. I think he's definitely be throwing a few hind lefts if sent to anyone's breeding shed, unless there's something about him we haven't been told yet....
