Man of Iron

Postby bdw0617 » Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:43 pm

I'm curious as to why coolmore would sale Man of Iron instead of standing him in the US.

that is a great female family, and the only stallion directly related to him at stud currently is jazil. thewayyouare is from the same family but still... the whole point of buying better than honor was to bred stallions wasn't it?

they bred one than sold it? I'm confused by that.

first: they sold him before the B.C
and they did not sell him completly - i think they will stand him as a stallion when man of iron gets retired
but other than that you are right ... i dont get that. they actually only sell horses where they think they are not good enough - its very rarly that they sold one which actually became good .....

btw the B.C marathon doesent count as a gr.I ?

No, the BC Marathon and several of the other new BC races have not been in place long enough to qualify for graded stakes status. High purse is not enough, also the quality of the competing fields is important and this factor can only be established over a minimum time period.

I suspect that unfortunately the Marathon will not be around long enough to acquire graded stakes status, as many of the Turf hacks consider it to be an unnecessary novelty.

you have to run 2 years before you get a graded status, which sucks becuase the breeders cup when it was first out got instant grade 1 status.

even with that said.. the juvenille turf is actually a grade 2.

the marathon will be graded next year, but i doubt it's a grade 1 race which is quite sad

Good surprise to know this marathonic winner is entire. Hope this trend may be extended before the race is off (it would be an error). Makes me remember Man O'War's son, Battleship. Good for the breeding industry!
