Milwaukee Brew's Stud Fee At $12,500

Postby westover » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:30 pm

Just wondered what people thought, it is a wee bit of a hefty jump from 2009.

Did he stand for $5000 cnd last year or was it $7,500 Cnd (i no he was in U.S.)

7500 US last year and thats where it should have remained. I feel Adena will gauge you whenever they feel they can get away with it. Right now they are trying to capitilize on the sons of ElPrado craze by standing the 2 start Singing Saint for $5000...puulease. These are the same folks that offered you Ghostzapper for $300,000.

I think its a big hike $5 G's. I don't think i new Ghostzapper was $300,000 holy crap!!!! lol isn't he $50,000 this year?

Hmmm i love MB but not sure what to do... as i do feel its a bit of a steep climb.. it will be interesting to see how his book fills as i remember D'Wildcat coming to Windfields and standing for $10,000 & they didn't come close to filling his book so they shipped him off to Florida.

Ghostzapper was never $300,000. He started out at $200,000.

Thanks fireslam for the correction, Don't know why I exaggerated that, must have got too emotional there....but $200,000 still warrants a holy crap don't ya think.

Adena always overpriced their stallions in Florida which is why it's kind of a non event that they left, because not a lot of outside mares were going to them anyway.

Yep,MB is setting himself up for The Adena Springs zinx.At twelve-five he'll breed a bunch of mares owned by Stronach by no name sires and suspect female families with bunches of restricted and state bred earnings.I still can't believe after the last 2 years Ghostzapper is at fifty.Talk about risk.

I'll take 2 for $2500 more to Belong To Me,before I'd ever even think of MB at $12,500

Jc has summed up the Adena Springs mares quite well. westover keep in mind the bulk of those mares are inhouse mares and that 12,500 will scare off plenty. There are a bunch of new stallions in Can. this year as competion as well.

This is indeed an excellent, accurate, description of the typical Adena mare which is why when they dumped 30 of them into the OBS January sale earlier this year in foal to Milwaukee Brew (whose listed fee was $7,500 at the time these mares were bred) they sold for an average price of just $5,223 (less than the listed fee of the stallion they were in foal too).

you are correct.. forgot about the amount of mares Frank breeds of his own to his own stallions. I just think $12,500 is too much when he stood at $7,500 in 09 nothing could warrant that much of a jump. If anything alot of the U.S. operations have lowered their stud fee's to offset the hurting economy/industry. We paid $15,000 for E Dubai in 09 now he is at $10,000. Our industry is one that is dependant on people having disposable income & right now there aren't many who have disposable income.

Here are some of the changed stud fees for 2010 and the published ones for 2009 as well as the yearling sales average price. What a huge drop a few are!
