Where are APEX ratings found?

Postby pokeyman » Fri Dec 04, 2009 6:08 am

I tend to be old school and use AEI/CI; percentage of winners and repeat winners; percentage of stakes winners; and median earnings as guides. I will look up a stallion's best runners and see if the mares were from excellent families or stakes producers to gather information on what class I think they might be.

I have never used APEX or ABC ratings.

From the small amount of information on the internet that I have located, I have discovered that the APEX ratings seem to take the guesswork out of a stallion's ability to sire high class runners.

I have a few questions....

What is the number range used? Is it 1 to 5 with 5 being the stallion that produces the classiest runners?

Are there problems with the APEX system?

Does it break down A-B-C runners or just give one number for ABC runners combined?

Where is this list located and how frequently is it updated?

Thank you!

Give the Pope and the King of England a horse and in thirty days, they'll be stealing halters.
