Stallions Whose 2010 Books Are Closed

Postby LB » Fri Dec 04, 2009 10:24 am

Even with the economy down and fewer mares being bred, popular stallions whose stud fees offer good value are finding their books closing fast. These are the ones I've heard of so far whose 2010 books are already closed (though I'm sure exception would be made for the right mare):

Candy Ride
Smart Strike
Sky Mesa
Dixie Union

Please feel free to add any others you know of. :)

I believe that you can add Medaglia d'Oro, Tapit and Birdstone to that list also. If Tapit's & Birdstone's books aren't completely full, then they're pretty close.

Nobody seems too interested in this besides me, I guess, but at this point the list is pretty long. Most of the successful, well priced stallions in Kentucky have already closed their books.

I'm interested but ignorant. Please continue.

Yes It's True is booked full but does have a "waiting list" but I'm not sure how effective that will be for anyone who has a mare that's open or needs to be bred before April.

Is it possible that if you are on the waiting list AND your mare is ready when nobody else in his book is that they will take you ? Or do you only get off it if another mare cancels?

If a mare can't be bred for whatever reason or a contract is not sent in they will fill those holes with the waiting list.

Unfortunately for us the mare we wanted to send is open and ready in the next few weeks.

I think many of those horses, though, still have seasons in the hands of syndicate share owners - at least that has been my experience in the past.

They can usually be booked with the right mare.
