The story of Sambouk
Sambouk was a mare that my Dad acquired in her later years who was 2x3 to both Man O'War and Sir Gallahad III. She was reportedly the best 2yo filly at the Fair Grounds.
To my knowledge, she produced two foals for us by our Nearco sire, Prince of India, who was bred by the Aga Khan:
1)Willie Koon, who reportedly breezed a mile at Oaklawn Park in 1:37 before he ever started. He later won a maiden special at Hawthorne Park by 10 lengths after recovering from an injury, and
2)Artice, who as a 2yo filly routinely outworked the stable star, Missouri Gent. Missouri Gent won the Razorback Handicap (now G3), and ran second in the Oaklawn Handicap (now G2). This filly was a chronic bleeder well before Lasix and never won a race.

"Belle Watling" is the name of the whorehouse madam in "Gone With The Wind".
Here's another Belle Watling. This one's out of a mare named after another madam, Polly Adler, who wrote a book about her trade called "A House Is Not A Home". http://www.pedigreequery.com/belle+watling3
Come to think of it, a better name for a mare by Pulpit out of Polly Adler might have been "Sadie Thompson", after the "fallen woman" who was seduced by a preacher.
And the Jockey Club considered "Sally Hemings" in bad taste? Go figure!

Those were the good old days when the JC wasn't so picky I guess. I had a filly by Well Noted out of Marble Lady, and "Lady of the Knight" was rejected as offensive. However, they did let me name her "Society Mistress."
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I think... Though it's pretty far back in the history, horses with Man o'War in the fifth generation aren't so much rare as it may seem. I see them sometimes - not too often, but I do. it's nothing I would be stunned with.
