You can get your mare to Big Brown for 25K right now.
If you have a really nice mare....the price is much lower.

Very interesting - especially since the $55K was a tad too much  They wanted us to bring Allou to him this year.

Not real sure I would breed a mare to him if they gave me $25k. I guess time will tell.

If they gave me $25k I'd be all over that like stink on a hog. That's more or less the cost of covering to 2yo, so my chances of actually making money on a horse would be dramatically increased!

ETA:

Or, after my mare was in foal, go to the 2yo sales and buy something good and ready to run. :)

so if they are giving big brown away like that... why the rush to get him to stud?

I realized he had an injury but they were going to retire him anyway. they were hell bent on it.

big brown can make more than that on the track, way, way more.

I know he had an injury, but one race off the steroid regimen and he spits the bit. Not so sure he could be making more on the track. I would say that IEAH has their money. No one knows yet how they will sell, has anyone seen one yet?

The summer of 2008 was a lifetime ago in the economy. If they had known what was coming in Sept, and how that has shaken down, I doubt they would have retired him. He may still be running this year if he was sound and they could do it all over again.
