By a sire who's slightly more successful than Buddha but not a son of Unbridled's Song.

I really though Line of David could have ended up at Darley.

It will be interesting to see where Battle Plan ends up.

Was Line of David retired because of injury? Or was it a fiscal "he won't ever be worth more than he is right now" decision?

Huh? What's so special about him?

I compared him to a stallion I've never heard of, that's about as sarcastic as I can get these days.

The news was the result of a leak, Spendthrift did not plan on making any announcement for some time. They bought Line of David as a racing & stallion prospect but when he did not pass vet, the deal was re-negotiated as a stallion prospect only. Like Notional, Line of David will stand for a very reasonable fee. Personally I think Spendthrift is a very forward-thinking farm and has offered breeders some very good & inventive deals. I think they do their homework well and are very in touch with the market. And no, I am not associated with them although I do buy seasons from them (and almost every other KY farm) for my clients.

I have not seen Line of David yet, but am told he is a bigger, stretchier version of his sire (balanced) and is very correct.

It will be very interesting to see where the big stallion prospects (in particular Quality Road & Eskendereya) will stand next year. Evans & Jackson/Zayat have ties with more than one stud farm and although money is short for everyone, the competition for those 2 horses shold be strong.

Sadly, just another example of a lightly-raced horse with physical problems shuffled off to stud, to reproduce more horses like himself. Nothing against the horse or Spendthrift, just the state of the modern thoroughbred industry. A horse like this, though, would seem to me to be a better fit in a regional market.

I agree with you, in my opinion he is more suited to a regional market. Spendthrift has stood horses in LA in the past and has considered PA on at least one occasion that I know of...who knows, LOD may end up in a regional market by the time the Stallion Register comes out.

By the way, I have seen some very good Notional foals...the "poor man's Indian Charlie"!

Hi da hossman ... and let's face it, a very lightly-raced horse named Malibu Moon has done extremely well for Spendthrift after STARTING his stud career in a regional market. I guess I shouldn't be too quick to judge, but MM did retire to stud with a stronger pedigree than LOD, in my opinon. Hope that Spendthrift will eventually take the plunge to Pa., that would really be exciting for me.

According to The Blood-Horse, Battle Plan has just been sold to Japan and will enter quarantine in late July.

i mean i agree i also would prefer a stallion with a little more than 7 starts and 3 wins ....

Nobody is saying he should NOT keep his balls but he would be better suited to spread his genes in a regional market not in Kentucky.
