Freshman Stallion Watch: Congrats

I cant say enough about this guy. I think he will really burst onto the national scene soon. Has a couple of nice 2yos sitting on a breakout. Stands for $4,500 and his 2yos averaged 49k. Can we say Malibu Moon? Same cross, similar start at stud. He didnt do much til he was 4, but he is siring some fast 2yos. So its only going to get better. Theres no stud in the book that has a better female family. He should pick up some better mares next year and really turn up the heat. Im just seeing Malibu Moon all over him. Possibly will be a better filly sire than male.

Looking pretty good to me so far too, also like Pomeroy and Mass Media's start.

The good thing about Pomeroy being off to a good start is that it brings some hope for Big Brown. Lets face it, I think a lot of us have our doubts about him. The feet and his unaccomplished sire. So itll help him out in the ring. Also Mass Media comes off to melike Concerto did, will get you a nice one every now and then, but will be more productive in florida.

Actually, I suspect that Big Brown may do ok, especially if he gets mares of the same physical type. He's got some interesting inbreeding, so he may pass on a very consistant set of genes.

Now Congrats has a graded stakes winner, his daughter won the Sorrento Stakes at DelMar today.

Yall paying attention? Hes about to be a national horse. Anyone want to lay wagers on where he will be and how much next year?

He certainly could be something special but a PR G3 winner does nothing for his value to Kentucky interests. He's going to need some more graded stakes winners before getting shipped to Kentucky.

Im not so sure he wouldnt stay in Florida. He'll be the Big Fish there.

Im not sure he would do well in KY. Theres already a lot of good A.P. Indy stallions there in the $10,000 .....big brother Flatter, Indigo Shiner, Stephen Got Even, Suave is starting to get some nice runners, Mineshaft is only $20,000, for what he's done.

I really dont look to see the yearling market pick up this fall. I think there will be cautious optimism with successful stallions, but theres still a lot of them out there, and people are still scaling back mare operations. The Keeneland yearling sale could be a very scary deal, with people basically getting rid of yearlings just to get out from under them.

All that being said, I have a mare in foal to Congrats, and if he stays in Florida, Ill go back to him.

i will definitely be sending a mare to him next season if he stays reasonable. And as far as AP Indy studs in Ky, he is from the best family and so far is doing great. If he keeps it up I dont see any reason a KY farm wold not want him. And I wouldnt qualify 95% of those studs listed as successful that were just listed. Most are hit or miss. The only successful ones off the top of my head are Pulpit and Malibu Moon. So theres a lot room for improvement.

And ASB, did you not see his daughter Wickedly Perfect win the G3 sorrento yesterday. So already a G3 filly, a GSW in PR and a few undefeateds with 2 or more starts.

I did see it, and she looked good. But as far as I'm concerned, that's his only graded winner of note. The PR is useless for his reputation anywhere but in PR.

Until those "undefeateds" get into stakes races, they're not going to help your case that he's the next big thing on his way to Kentucky, either.

As I said, he could be something special, but until he gets some legitimate graded winners outside of the filly in California, he won't be going anywhere. Any talk otherwise, is beyond premature.
