I'm not familiar with him, but I was listening to HRTV this morning and one of the commentators stated he was a stallion w/lots of potential. Opinions?

Generally speaking, there is no worse source for breeding information than the commentators on TVG and HRTV.

LB: You are probably right, but I think they were reporting what they had heard from the trainer or owner of Read the Contract.

Read The Footnotes is currently #19 on the Third Year Sire list. In 2009, he was #19 on the Second Year List. In 2008, he was #15 on the First Year List. So that's how he compares to his direct peers--admittedly one of the strongest sire crops in years.

He has 3 stakes winners so for in 2010--including Out of Respect who won today--but his earnings of $1,155,534 are not enough to place him in the top 150 sires. If indeed he does have "lots of potential" he seemingly has yet to reveal it.

You got that right, just about every time a Smarty Jones horse goes into the gate the announcer sing his accolades about what a really good sire he is. He is literally the only sire I recall them doing that with.
