Is Intidab the sire of Greater Good worth $3500 Stud Fee?
Intidab has done well with a small foal crop and is he well worth the $3500 stud fee they are asking on him considering Greater Good won the Southwestern S. and could be a top 10 Derby contender?
Intidab is well worth $3,500 but I'm not sure a horse like Greater Good will be the norm by him. He ran like his pedigree suggests in being a pretty fast sprinter. Maybe Shadwell just make a mistake on him but he was rejected alot in going to stud for some reason. It seems like he moved a couple of times & went to NY & Shadwell never had much of a stud fee on him & hardly no one bred any mares to him which kind of suprised me with him being fast & having an ok pedigree.
hi guys,
Intidab's sire (Phone Trick) has been unimportant (to say the least) as a sire-of-sires (remember Favorite Trick, Mazel Trick, Caller ID).
Regardless...Intidab's first crop (two-year-olds of 2004) which includes only six or seven foals (and no less than 3 stakes horses) including his star stakes-winning son Greater Good...has captured the imagination of many...
...as a result Intidab is now DEFINITELY worth every penny of his advertised $3,500 stud fee.
I expect that Intidab will receive good support in 2005...he earned it.
Respectfully

I also have a son of Phone Trick, whom I have placed a lot of faith in. His first foals are two year olds this year so the outcome remains to be seen. But in analyzing Phone Trick as a sire of sires, a point to consider is the broodmare sire. Intidab is out of a Mr. Prospector mare. My horse is out of a Storm Cat mare. Zavata is out of a Cox's Ridge mare, and has been holding his own getting mares and having offspring sold.
Mazel Trick was out of a mare by Ramahorn. Favorite Trick's dam was by Medieval Man. Caller ID was out of a mare by Ramsinga. These are not the kind of broodmare sires that "make" a stallion. Conversely, it might be to Phone Trick's credit that he was able to do so well with the kind of mares he got.
I sometimes hear Phone Trick dismissed as a source of "cheap speed." Certainly, he saw less than the best mares in his life at stud. However, the Icecapade line is known for throwing sound horses. So if you could get "cheap speed" in a sound horse, perhaps it might create a new trend in racehorse breeding?
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
Intidab

At $3500 its a steal with the chance of the Big Horse. There are plenty of people out there who want a Derby winner so bad that they'll pay $1 mil + for any 3yo stakes winner in Feb.

Add also Intidab made 36 lifetime starts. Contrast that to Bernardini...... Empire Maker.... Smarty Jones etc etc. all who stand for six figures yet raced only a handful or two times and Intidab is a paradise island in a sea of breeding insanity that threatens to destroy the sport.
