This story makes it sound like he's coming back as a conquering hero, rather than a commerical disappointment:

I liked Smarty as a racehorse and I'm a PA bred myself, so what's not to like about him going back there?
But that was a pretty misleading spin they put in the story about Smarty having 23 more winners than Birdstone, and making it sound like dumb luck that Mine That Bird and Summer Bird happened to each win a Triple Crown race. Without looking at the stats, I know Smarty had a lot more chances to sire a "big horse" with much better quality mares than Birdstone did at the start of their stud careers.
