The last I heard about this Grade 1 winner is that he was sent from Ashford Stud in KY to a Texas farm several years. I haven't read anything about him since, including in stallion registers.

Does anyone know his status, and if his major fertility issues continue?

He has two two-year olds, a colt and filly, one being in Europe I believe. His fertility seems to be about 25% and he has around 20 mares lined up so far. I got this info from a big fan of his who keeps up with him like a hawk and speaks with the farm that stands him. So i'm sure the info is correct. With his pedigree and talent that he showed, i'd take my chances with him ala Lure. Looking at his two year old in the database, he's surprisingly well-bred being a fertility "test" baby.

Thanks. As I recall, a Texas vet named Dr. Day obtained the horse from Ashford when they gave up on him. I know several vets, one from KY and the other from New Zealand, who conducted extensive tests on him before Ashford let him go.

You're right--it sounds like a LURE replay. Interesting that Ashford ended up with Lure, Cigar and A P Valentine, all reproductively challenged.

Dr. William Day stands A.P. Valentine at his Cedar Creek Farm in Brenham, Texas (979) 836-0057. Dr. Day is a very friendly man and extremely knowledgeable in regards to equine reproduction. He has a good handle on what mares he can get in foal, etc.

Was A P Valentine a ridgeling like his daddy?
