You know how I feel about Devil's Orchid! WOW can this boy produce. Great temperment and good runners, not great ones but they will keep you out of the red.

Katahuala Countys are either really good or really bad. But as I own his son, I shouldnt be allowed to have an opinion... Sweetest horse I have ever worked with and sooo smart. Too bad he got into a fight as a yearling cuz damn can this kid run, but his ankle would never hold with a jock on board.

YOONEVANO seems to have it all but time will tell.

I am really excited about the new stallion Recreation, kind of an ugly thing but I am sure he will produce exceptional runners as long as they can stay sound. I'm not a huge Storm Cat fan ( go ahead throw things we don't all have to love him )But I adore his dam sooooo...

Was out at Canmor the other day and got a look at all of their stallions.The one that caught my eye was Net Asset.Never really knew much about him,race record,looks,production but after watching him 22.4n'it across the field he was in he is sure a mover with a smooth gait and a good looking horse.He was playful but friendly and until I got home and looked him up I didnt realize he is a half to Mr Greely and after looking at his horses he has sired ,they seem to be OK while really not getting much for mares.I went and looked at a few of his new foals and some yearlings and a few of his runners at the track and they seem to be fairly good looking individuals and from asking around they seem to be good to work around.They probably dont have a lot of commercial value in BC until he throws a big horse but I think Phil was right that he has a future ahead of him.

Ryan. What did you think of Digital Dan? You had said before what a good looking horse he was when he was racing, do you still feel the same? Net Asset just didn't do it for me. He lacked a lot of punch physically, and I think you'd have to be pretty careful about the mares you breed to him. Unless he gets a big runner soon, like this year, I don't think he'll do much here. Too many others with better stuff to offer. Then again, Regal Intention and Vying Victor are both getting old so when they go, maybe some more doors will open for the little guys!
I really am not sure what to make of Yoonevano. If you look at his numbers carefully, they are not all that great. I know he's got 2 great runners, but between the 2 of them, theyy have earned the majority of his earnings. The rest of the crew just don't seem to be pulling their own weight.
Storm Victory didn't impress me...he struck me as the smooth, papmered rich kid who wanted to hang onto mommy's apron a bit longer He just seemed boring to me. Not much presence, and a bit common, although he's quite handsome. He also has quite the parrot mouth. Bad legs IMO, especially if you have a mare light on bone and not quite perfect.

I really liked Bright Valour, and I think these tough running, hard knocking studs are the way to go. I like the thought of a horse that can run hard, then walk off the track into the breeding shed without help. BV has a lot of presence, and is a very commanding looking horse.

Perfect Score, although I am biased because of my connection with his owners, I am very impressed with. I think he is going to be great for the market. He too was a very hard knocking stud with 69 starts. I think this will transpire to some seriously tough horses on our tracks. Market wise, I have no idea how his foals will sell, but i think anyone who gets one of his foals will be a very happy camper once they start running. Score is a great looking horse, as well as having the comformation needed to stand up to a rigorous race campaign. He has a very nice temperment, but has enough edge that you know he's a stud, and a potent one at that.

Silver Fox I think is an underrated stallion in my opinion. He hasn't gotten the best book of mares in his time here, but he is an amazing looking stallion. Very handsome, gorgeous build and balance. Many of his foals are not having much chance to show their form due to injuries and illness. Silver Donn had health problems and has not fully returned to former glory, I hope he does this year. A very promising 2 YO of last year, Sly Reply, fractured a sesamoid bone in his stall after being a demon in his works and having high expectations for his first start. Hopefully he will return in 05 and show his true form.

Orchids Devil and Recreation do not overly impress me, especially since they are out of the same mare. If you look closely at the dam, she really never produced much as far as runners go, and neither of those studs did much on the track. Screams soundness issues maybe? I have not seen either in the flesh, so I don't know what they look like. But to me, if a stud hasn't proven he can withstand the rigors of racing, that makes me leary of how his foals will stand up to it, especially on a track like Hastings.

Here is a quick take on a few of the stallion:

Alfaari: Never have seen him but have heard he is a good looking horse.His production on the track have been a little weak lately.

Alybro:Half bro to Alydeed.Another in a long list of not getting much of mares.Never seen him but his horses are good looking.

Amaruk:Was an average horse on the track being lightly raced.Not sure about his pedigree power but has had a couple of nice runners (Five Point Star and April Foolish) and not much else.

Bright Valour: Never seen him but it is hard to fault his race record.The fella who owns him bought some nicely bred young mares that I assume will be bred to his stallion,has some upside.

Captain Collins:Has only a handful at the track and I dont know much about him other than his immediate pedigree which isnt bad.

Digital Dan:I still dont think he is that bad to look at.Average bred at best but was a speedy and nice horse in these parts.Bred quite a few mares in his first few years.

Dixieland Diamond:Owned by Budget so he will get an opportunity to be bred to some decent mares.Looked at him and he isnt bad looking and I have seen 7 of his yearlings and they werent bad either.

Dramatic Show: Lightly raced Seattle Slew son,won 2 conditions at the track and was sold at Barrets for 30k a few years back.He is a 1/2 bro to a 2.2 million dollar earner.

Finality:Decent race horse,bred a number of mares in the last few years.Dehere isnt known as a sire of sires but time will tell.

Katahaula County:One of the best in BC but his numbers are pretty hit and miss,They are either real good or real bad.Horses get good prices at auction here but IMO not worth 4k.

Light Of Mine:Good Looking horse and was OK here when he ran.Sired a 400k earner in Roscoe Pito but not a whole lot more.May be OK but again their aint many sons of Mining standing at stud.

Mass Market: DOnt know a whole lot about him.Had a few runners that sold OK and run OK.

Net Asset: I rather liked him when I was visiting with him. I dont mind that he is by Private Account and I really like the fact that he is a half to Mr Greely who has been a good stallion.He didnt run often but he did win iut 3 condtions both short and long.I looked at his youngens as I mentioned before and liked the look of them.I feel he has upside.

Orchids Devil"Out of one of the nicest mares to run at Hastings once upon a time.Sons of Forty Niner's are doing OK at stud and it is pretty hard to knock the horses he has already thrown at the track being bred to some pretty suspect mares.His sale prices are rising and he may be one of our better stallions here in a few years.The jury's out on him on soundness of foals.

Perfect Score:Has a good race record in his younger years but was running pretty cheap for the last few years which wont go totally unnoticed.Personal Hope was considered a flop as a stallion by some but he was a nice race horse.Their arent a whole lot od Personal Hope stallions out their.Perfect Score will ad some speed and durabilty to his babies which will help his cause.

Persian Star: Not the best bred horse around and he was an OK runner.Dont think he has gotten many mares so his production is up in the air.Not a bad looking horse.

Recreation:Didnt have a lot of success at the races but did show a lot of speed in his races and he suffered through some physical issues. A Storm Cat and a half to Orchids Devil.Looks like a 1/4 horse.Fee is cheap for the bloodlines (500)

Regal Intention;An older boy.Had a great race record and has had some nice horses here at Hastings but nothing really exciting lately.Looked aged when I seen him but his horses bring good money at the local sales.

Royal Albert Hall: Never seen him and his offspring to the track havent been pretty although they are still young.Should get some of the Feu D'enfer business now that he is no longer with us.

Stephanotis:Not my fave and he stands for a good buck.A good looking boy he had a good one in Notis Otis last year but not much else for a long while.His horses do very well at the sales.

Storm Victory:Never seen him.Unraced.Heard he looks OK.Has nothing at the track so i'll hard to gauge.Storm Cat son and a half to Conte Di Savoya who hasnt really been to successful at stud I dont believe?

Synastry Express:Never seen him and really cant tell you anything about him.Same for Welbred Fred although he had a couple of OK horses in Ontario.

Vying Victor:Probably the best in BC.Throws grinders and tough horses although they sometimes resemble standard breds and have legs pointing west and east at the same time.Cant fault his production but his sales priced are hit and miss.

Yoonevano:Has had a few runners and a few bums.The top runners are good but his horses that I have seen are really big and may not be suited to a bull ring.

I only have knowledge of Regal Intentioin. I bred to him when he was at Windfields. He sired a great looking filly for me, that could run and is now in the broodmare band.

Amaruk's sire, Wolf Power, was South Africa's version of Spectacular Bid on the track. He was tough, sound, and consistent, and his foals were more of the same. They generally weren't flashy, but were solid and hard-knocking and they got the job done.

If Amaruk ends up passing the same on to his foals, he could be a nice deal. The fact that he has one stakes winner and one stakes-placed horse out of a total of *7* foals of racing age is encouraging. Even more encouraging to me is that all seven of his registered foals of racing age have actually raced, and that on average they have 8 starts apiece.

I agree about Amaruk. He has not had a great book so far, and I hope he'll continue to improve.
I adore Regal Intention. I think he is just a great old campaigner, and he has proven himself over and over again to get the classy horses on the track running. He is my top choice for 2006 for my one mare, Jackson's Joy, Who will be bred to Silver Fox for 2005. My other mare, Miss Shahmeka, is going to Perfect Score this year, and I don't know for 2006.
We have lots to choose from here at home so I'll see.

Digital Dan is TERRIBLY back at the knee. That in itself, turns me off.

Cree, I couldn't be bothered to look at him that closely when I was there. He just really turned me off. Knees seem to be one of the major deciding factors people look at at the sales. I found that out the hard way with my first sales prep colt in 2003. He was a bit of a tool and liked to try to kill himself every time I looked away from him. He banged his knee about a month before the sale and was totally fine on it soundness wise, but after being trailered to the sale and standing in a box stall for 3 days, some of the fluid came back up. It turned a lot of people off, even though his conformation was great if you could see past the fluid. Sucked on our end, but in a way it was okay. He ended up going to a trainer that had his half-sister, a multiple stakes winning mare, they had thought he would be out of thier price range.
Maybe fate played a role in things?

Light of Mine - I'm hardly any type of expert, but with only 15 foals on the ground (not including this year) and one of them a stakes winner - AND you like the way he looks...well, wanna take a chance?

Thinking about it, hust don't know about the cross on either of my mares. I amy look into it for next year.
