Pedigree Query

Will a stud standing for $25,000 sire his 2nd Derby winner in High Limit who looked impressive in the Louisiana Derby? Maria's Mon can get the big horse but the last couple of years he has not had many stakes winners. I think High Limit has a chance to win the Derby.

I totally agree with you Keith. He has a shot at the Derby (that is if he doesn't get hurt between now and then). He did look really impressive in the Louisiana Derby. My vote is cast for High Limit.

Maria's Mon is not very commercially popular at the sales, but I was very impressed with him when I visited Pin Oak. He just has a very smooth athletic motion, and is very special. I would breed to him in a heartbeat if I weren't trying to sell the foals.

I've always liked Maria's Mon. I thought sriously about booking a mare to him this year but in the end I decided to send her somewhere else. As hentorn pointed out, he isn't a very commercial sire, though he does have the occasion very good sale. One thing I cannot understand is why anyone would breed to Monarchos when they could go to Maria's Mon for less money.

The horse (High Limit) got a very easy lead and has a unbalanced Conduit Mare Profile; also Maria's Mon is a stallion I tend to associate with unsoundness...

I was talking about Bill's Conduit Mare Profile, which gives him 10 Brilliant Points to only 5 Stamina points. Not that bad on the damside though, I agree with you.

Try to remember even though Saratoga Six was a son of Alydar, he was an undefeated 2YO and has an AWD of 6.73.

Tend to agree with Ilbean; this horse has a lot of speed on the dam's side and got away with a dream trip up front. I'd want to see him go a distance without getting everything his own way before concluding that he'll stay.

yes, easy pace 47 and change for 3/4 makes it much easier to come home strong. Still this colt changes leads effortlessly there must be some talent here.

High Limit only had a maiden and allowance under his belt at Delaware Park. His first start in Gr. II competition and made it look so easy. It looks like the real competition is going through Arkansas with Afleet Alex. High Limit just makes it look so easy. With a good individual you can not always expect a horses pedigree to keep a horse from being great. John Henry, Cigar, Bet Twice, Silver Charm, Prairie Bayou, Snow Chief, Gentlemen, Candy Ride, Afternoon Deelites, Soul of the Matter, Heartlight No. One,Mister Frisky, Frisk Me Now, A Huevo, Angi Go, Maria's Mon, Declan's Moon, Greater Good, Say Florida Sandy, Buddy Gil, and many others do not have great pedigrees but they are great individuals. It is awesome to see horses that out of affordable stallions win the classics.

I've been watching two Maria's Mons with High Limit being one of them. High Limit is still not viable to me. Need to see him tested on the lead instead of loose. I am watching out for Monarch Lane as the other MM, but he has not really shown much on the track yet. I like the dam side a bit better.

I don't think that High Limit will win the Derby, but I do remember that 2 or 3 years ago Frankel having amazing success with a recently purchased 3 year old filly. She had won a 1st level allowance race in KY, before one of Frankel's clients bought her. Frankel took her to NY and won 2 GRade 1's in her next 2 races. She ran bad in the Alabama, and I don't think that I heard of her after that.
