Of Theatrical trainer Bill Mott said: "He was probably one of the best horses I ever trained, or ever will train. He was my first champion, my first Breeders Cup [1987 Turf] winner. He won six Grade I stakes my first year in New York. He bought my first home in New York, single-handedly. He was probably the most life-changing horse I ever had and I trained a ton of stakes winners by him."

"Of all the Theatrical horses that I've had, Shakespeare resembles him the most, both in physical appearance and while racing. Like Theatrical, he has that extra something that pushes him to the wire. He has the look."
