He was at Walmac... had no idea he'd been moved.

Walmac has been losing stallions NOT nec bad because when I had Go GO Bred they were good people, but perhaps its to make Song look better in La. rather than Ky. I bigger stallion in a smaller pool.
He gets mares preg on the first try and he is still a good stallion.

The syndicate who bought Song from Walmac has been on the hunt for a top notch stallion to bring to LA. He fit the bill. He got to LA last week and his book is filling fast. In case you don't know, Henny Hughes is now in his place at Walmac.

True about Henny Hughes and Walmac does give discounts but I have to say that stud fee in La is more expensive than what I paid for him last year.

Hi Milhouse et al,

I wish Songandaprayer well in Louisiana and I hope that a change of scenery will help him.

There's no market left for Songandaprayer in KY where he was, effectively, pumped and dumped. He had 4 GSW in his first crop of 2003 that got him a KY location with a $35,000 tag but in ~850 foals since he's had a single G3 SW. His sales base if fully eroded.

His aggregate progeny earnings are good (~ 6 million) but this was accomplished with an army of sprinting claimers. Almost all of his SWs are small track, restricted or South American.

I don't wish to be negative but my advice to Louisiana breeders would be to avoid Songandaprayer because at any fee you can do better claiming, you can't make money on him breeding to sell or race other than a very few foals. He's a stallion that had a HUGE opportunity and failed.

Regards,

Pete

I would hardly call him a failure.

*2012 & 2011 Leading Sire of Winners
*Sire of 26 Juvenile Winners in 2012
*UNBRIDLED'S SONG's Best Sire with Over $32 Million Lifetime Earnings

And he ranked 23rd on the US Stallion earnings list with $6,180,024 in 2012 progeny earnings.

I think thats a little rough on him myself. He had stakes winners this year at Gulfstream Park, Delaware, Monmouth Park, Woodbine, Reveron was second in the grade 1 Florida Derby last year, hardly second rate tracks. He has 4% stakes winners from foals, which is a lot better than a lot of horses. His average earnings per runner is over $50,000, without a big earner to skew the stats. For the price, he looks perfectly suited to people breeding to race. Yearlings averged $25,000 this year, 2 year olds averaged over $40,000, so he looks like he's still a commercial buy. Looks more than solid for a $5000 horse.

The only thing that bothers me about him is who his sire is. I know everyone has their own opinions on that but when you hear over and over from those in KY that know more than I do, they say stay away from USong.
Whether thats the case? I don't know, but I don't want to find out.

I just watched his video thats still up, and noticed a strange back end walk compared to his front end. He's very pretty, but I'm wondering why he has been moved and fee reduced.

Is there a way to find out how sturdy is offspring are I wonder?

I'd be curious to know who in Kentucky has that opinion about Unbridleds Song. It wouldn't be any of the dozens of breeders that I know.

Well, actually, thinking back, I honestly first read it on this forum some time ago. I've also heard it discussed on the 'talk show' section on TVG some time ago, and I also know folks in KY as well that feel that way.

Soooo, he may be a pretty boy, which he is, but apparently there has been alot of breakdowns???? If its NOT the case, why has there been so much discussion? Just like Reviewer, he was well bred, but had bad bones, which he passed on to his daughter, the greatest of all time.

Wasn't 8 Belles by him. I totally loved her and to see her die on the track was horrible.

This is simply repeating the advertising blurb from Songandaprayer's page in the Stallion Register.

With respect, is this the extent of your research and analysis?

I'm in KY and am one of those who believes, when breeding, you should RUN THE OTHER WAY from anything with Unbridled's Song...

And you, Madelyn, are a breeder, have different age horses, stand a stallion, so you would know. You are down there, right in KY, and hear what goes round.

God, I love that photo of your stallion, he is gorgeous. Hows his foals doing?

Unfortunately he has not had very many. I am just too far west. He has some gorgeous colts and fillies out there now, though, so we shall see.

He throws good bone, pretty heads, and horses who are "born broke" generally. He would be terrific as a sporthorse sire. I really love him a lot. He is a really well mannered horse.
