Who are you waiting for and who are you going to?

Postby CherryDavis » Thu Feb 13, 2014 11:49 am

Since we are buried in snow and ice and I'm sitting here watching my 15.2h maiden that looks like she is about to give birth to a 16.1h foal, I thought it might be fun to ask about everyone's breeding plans.

So what stallions are you awaiting progeny from and who are you going to go to this year?

I only have 3 coming this year, next year I should have at least 7.

I'm waiting for:

Dublin, Discreetly Mine, & Mineshaft

I'm going to:

Dublin, Discreetly Mine(2), Flashy Bull, Majestic Warrior, Paynter, & First Samurai (I'm super excited about him, my mare was just accepted into his book right on the heels of Lea winning the Donn!).
:D

My three mares are all in foal to Petionville. I have booked Jump Start and Orientate this season to my Citidancer and Dixieland Band mares respectively . I am not sure about the third mare yet but my short list consist of Offlee Wild and Flashy Bull.
Stallion selection is one of my great joys of the racing business .

Best of luck to you with all of them! What mare are you breeding to First Samurai, CherryDavis?

We have a Creative Cause colt born a few days ago and are waiting for an Arch, a Ghoszapper, a Blame, and a Broken Vow.

Our mares are booked to Animal Kingdom, More Than Ready, Congrats, and Colonel John for this year.

Blue Feather, I agree with you about stallion selection. I love doing it.

Reading the list of stallions you are bred to or are going to this year, is like reading about candy in a candy shop... how very exciting. :-)

Wow everyone has some great babies coming!

I agree, putting together matings is my favorite thing! I love going to look at all the stallions too. Of course that often makes picking studs harder since there are so many that I end up liking. I really fell in love with Paynter when I looked at him. I went to Winstar with absolutely no intention of breeding to him but went home and put him at the top of my list!

Looks like my Dublin may be making its entrance into the world tonight. This mare would pick the worst possible night to foal. I'm just hoping that the snow isn't over my head when I have to head out to deliver

We have one on the ground by Diabolical out of Soulful (Lion Heart x Seattle Slew) and another due on April 1st out of our stakes placed mare (Bartok x Empire Glory). We breed strictly New Mexico breds and Diabolical did very well as a first crop sire last year, ranking as high as #1.

For this season we're going to take a gamble on breeding Soulful to a new stallion, Stellar Rain. He's Storm Cat x Stellar Jayne, and a 3/4 brother to Devon Lane. I think our Bartok mare is going to sit this year out so we can try to move back her foaling date for 2016, but if we change our mind, she'll probably go to Weather Warning (Storm Cat).

If we were free to breed to any stallion, we'd probably send them both to Midnight Lute.

I hope everyone posts their foals pics on the Foal Watch thread. CherryDavid, best wishes on the foal about to make an appearance.

I hope those of you with newbies post some pics under the Foal Watch thread so we can see the 2014 babies.

It's easier to put one here. :)

This is our colt by Creative Cause, 1 week old.

That is one good looking baby! Love the leg and bone, not to mention the markings are adorable!

My first came last night. She is a peanut but spunky and well made.
