Pedigree Query

what does everyone think of louis quatorze offspring. Looks like colts sell better than the fillys, and how many of his sons stand at stud? looks like thoughbred times lists one. Is he a better race than sales stallion.

You've been patient waiting for a response re: Louis Quatorze.

I submit he's better race than sales (although I could not recommend breeding to him at all). His lifetime sales numbers don't look so bad...but most of that's prior to him being dropped like a hot-potato after showing little consistency in getting quality racehorses.

He did get at least a couple of nice runners though...such as Second of June and Repent...but physically each offers little to write home. Second of June walks like Charlie Chaplin (and I'm not kidding). Standing in front of him leads one to start scratching one's head. As for Repent...he sold quite BIG as a kid...and was (for a short period of time) the best three-year-old in the country (in my opinion) until sidelined coming out of the Illinois Derby. But as a stallion...Repent's a bit light overall (to suit my taste) and I suggest he offers very little to a mare...especially in the bone-mass category...and thru his knees.

Louis Quatorze might be okay regionally...but I suggest he offers no pizzaz whatsoever...and not much in the dreams-come-true category.

Very disappointing.

I would agree with most of what FOS said except I do think LQ is throwing some very nice allowance type runners especially for a regional breeder. I'm aiming to buy a filly by him at OBS tomorrow. I think he also holds some value as a future broodmare sire if the family under him is good.

Our Louis Quatorze filly (Star Celebrity) was a good racer and we were very pleased with her. She outperformed every prediction made when we first bought her. She surprised us race after race...

I'm a little late with this post as well.

Louis Quatorze sired Repent (who is standing stud in Florida @$5,000). As FOS said, he was dropped like a hot potato when he had only Repent and a minor SW as his first foals were running at 4.

He nearly came to NY, then made his way to MD where he stands for $6,000.

He has added several decent SWs to Repent since and had become a more consistent sire of runners than his early record would have suggested.

He isn't very commercial, mainly based on his lack of 2yo winners (about 11%), and his Southern Hemisphere foals have pretty much duplicated what we've seen here.

I was consulted by the farm in NY where he would have stood for $5,000 and advised against aquiring him. Sine that time he has become more reliable and a reasonable choice for breed to race owners. Sovereign Dancer was a nice sire with soe interesting pedigree but never got sires that spurred the imagination.
