Pretty impressive sire for a horse with only one foal crop prior to his death.

He actually had three crops before his death, but a sad loss nonetheless.

Really! I just read an article in blood horse that said he only stood for a year prior to his death. Maybe I mis-read it.

His foals were born in 1982, 1983, and 1984. The speedy Lost Code was a member of his last crop, while the Flamingo Stakes (G1) winner Badger Land, a good sire in South Africa, was a member of his second crop.

Hi Mahubah,
Both Lost Code and Badger Land sired better than expected.
Lost Code is proving to be a nice broodmare sire, (Squirtle Squirt's dam is Lost The Code by Lost Code).
I believe Badger Land was sent to South Africa, but he was a nice racehorse sire in NA.

Badger Land was a SUPERSTAR in South Africa.
He has two sons standing there: Badger's Coast and Badger's Drift.

Codex was one heck of a race horse...
...and his rider Angel Cordero was gifted...and seemed to often 'push the envelope' (I suggest his Preakness ride on Codex when he defeated Genuine Risk [ridden by Jacinto Vasquez]...was critically reviewed and was the kind of "stuff" that supporters and/or detractors of Cordero might talk about for many years to come).
Regardless...I suggest that Cordero is arguably among the best Big-Race riders ever...
...and Codex was a VERY good one.

Deja-vu with a vengence this evening. Dominguez isn't Cordero and Jeremy Rose rode like today.

Incredible...and the same spot where Codex took Genuine Risk wide...over two decades ago.
When Dominguez TAGGED Scrappy T with a left-handed stick (coming out of the turn for home)...a horseracing video-bite for-the-ages was instantly born.
Very game performance by Afleet Alex (what a brilliant recovery)...and fantastic instincts and reaction by Jeremy Rose (to save the day) when ALL the chips were on the line.
All the racing luck...and a just reward for much the best horse on Preakness day 2005...Afleet Alex.
For what it's worth I suggest that ALL racing fans saw something fantastic...and amazing...
...and fortunately no catastrophe occurred.

Agree all the way. Ironically a highlighted Preakness moment was exactly the Codex / Genuine Risk incident.
Rose gave a master class in riding. He was flawless before his brilliant handling of a (probable) disaster. Horse and rider were a thing of beauty.
I'll try to continue our thread on Lion Heart / Omega Code on my return.
