It's rather difficult to answer such an open question satisfactionally. The best sire by the handicap-rating of his racing-carier or his earnings during that period is easy to answer but with only few informational content. The best sire for a specific broodmare can only be estimated by knowing pedigree, physical strengths and weeknesses of the mare and the breeding-aim of the breeder, and the money, he is willing to spend for a nomination. Sometimes the "best" for a specific mare must not be the "best" considered by general opinion - this makes thoroughbred-breeding so interesting and exciting.

Why would you both asking such a question? The Ohio Breeders progam on a whole is a joke. There is little being offered to the breeder and stallion owner for anyone to make it worth their while. Let alone actually invest into it.

You would get a better response by asking what stallion offers the best value for Ohio breds...who in KY has foals racing well on the Ohio Bred scene? Ohio Accredited horses aren't worth a whole lot anymore. You owuld be money ahead to breed outside teh sate and foal in Ohio to stay Ohio Reg.

Ok. I thought that the breeding here is bad. I ask that because I am from OHIO.

I'm also in Ohio, and a stallion owner...though after getting involved in our states program (where my stallion started and at one time was Ohio Leading sire) I came to the conclussion its just not worth it. He became my prelim eventer for 9 yrs and I just pretty much kept him for my own personal use...even when breeders called. I also found out most NOT ALL breeders in Ohio have no clue as to what they are doing or what they think is best for the horse. I used to get skinny mares with ratty foals by their sides only to send them back FAT HAPPY in foal with a foal by their sides that was now managable and well adjusted only to turn the horses back over to their owners to hear them bitch about the miserable day rate and not even a thank you.

BTW My stallion is now 24 yrs old an in Michigan more or less on retirement thought still producing. He has done well as a sport horse sire as well as has thrown a few blacktyped runners.

Like I said you might be money ahead to breed outside the state (ky, NY, Pa, Ind) and ship your mares back here to foal and still take part in the Ohio bred program.

We are now breeding for the commercial market and will be foaling our mares out of state...again because there is no incentive to foal a horse and still have any commercial value
