hi guys
Seems like quite often topics and/or questions and comments regarding broodmare sires...prospective broodmare sires...and all things related to broodmare sires...come up.
A name which I very rarely hear mentioned is Jolie's Halo. His daughters usually have plenty of Body...plenty of Bone...plenty of Size...good Length, Balance and Proportion (and often outstanding Shoulders and Quarters), and in their own quiet way are producing some quality runners despite having relatively limited opportunities.
Simply put...Jolie's Halo mares seem to be under the radar. Regardless...I expect that he WILL be an important broodmare sire.
Jolie's Halo mares are not in abundance (in North America) as a result of his sale to Japan some years ago, but I sense that his daughters will be recognized sooner rather than later...as potentially valuable commodities...capable of producing some Top-Class horses.

Hi FOS and Mary,
Moody and Leroy were JOLLEY.
Commercial appeal and success as a broodmare sire are mutually exclusive and I'd expect that Jolie's Halo will continue under the radar as he did when he stood in NA until one of his daughters produces a G1 winner or a contending classic colt. A steady stream of SWs wouldn't hurt either.
I don't know how you define important broodmare sire, but it will be an uphill battle. Jolie's Halo lacks numbers and the quality of his book was ordinary. To date his daughters (from a limited number of foals) have done well but there's no spike in quality coming like the one that catapulted Dixieland Band to the top of the broodmare sire list.
As of now I'd consider Jolie's Halo mares for breeding to race and for commercial breeding if they come with a good set of credentials.
Regards,
Pete

hi Pete
You wrote "To date (Jolie's Halo) daughters (from a limited number of foals) have done well but there's no spike in quality coming like the one that catapulted Dixieland Band to the top of the broodmare sire list."
Pete...I agree with your comment that "Jolie's Halo lacks numbers and the quality of his book was ordinary."
That's why I wrote "...in their own quiet way (they) are producing some quality runners despite having relatively limited opportunities."
And of course...it is understood how few Jolie's Halo daughters there are in North America. He might have a total of maybe 80 to 100 or so daughters that were/are in production.
Dixieland Band (born in 1980...and still standing at Lane's End in 2005 for $50,000 Live Foal) probably has (or will have) somewhere between 500 and 600 daughters that were...are...or will be in production.
Jolie's Halo (born in 1987 and sent to Japan in 1996) started to catch my eye some time ago (as a potential broodmare sire)...to a large degree because his daughters that I'd seen were very impressive physically. As I wrote "His daughters usually have plenty of Body...plenty of Bone...plenty of Size...good Length, Balance and Proportion (and often outstanding Shoulders and Quarters)..."
Then his daughter French Village (out of She's French by Jolie's Halo) jumped-up and knocked off the first two legs of the Florida Stallion Stakes series for owner Eugene Melnyk.
Then Don't Get Mad (who's out of Class on Class by Jolie's Halo) comes to the fore and performs impressively at the elite level (4th in the Ky Derby 2005...and winner and placed in several impressive stakes performances...including graded). Don't Get Mad might be a genuine front-page horse in the not too distant future...and might be that G1 winner that can elevate his dam's-sire (Jolie's Halo) to prominance (or at the very least a good measure of respectful recognition as a quality broodmare sire).
Having seen a number of EXTREMELY impressive looking Jolie's Halo daughters...and acknowledging his limited opportunities...I suggest he's one that might be under the radar, and that available daughters (of Jolie's Halo), and foals...yearlings...2-year-olds etc out of Jolie's Halo mares might be worthy of a close look.
I expect the best is yet to come...and All Things Considered...Jolie's Halo "WILL be an important broodmare sire."
Best to you.

I dont really have much to say either way about Jolie's Halo other than I love the sire line on the bottom of a pedigree, but I feel that Dont Get Mad's dam-line has more to do with, and will take more credit for the talent there than Jolie's Halo will. The family has quietly started to make a good surge back to throwing very talented runners at a more consistant rate... They had Grade Point last year... or was it the year before? Either way, I think for a breed to race program, Jolie's Halo is a good bms prospect.
