UNUSUAL HEAT Now has a G2 Winner !

Postby Nijinsky » Sat Aug 13, 2005 11:28 am

Tucked Away Tucks Away a Grade 2 Victory
With second-place finishes in two graded stakes races already tucked away, Tucked Away took the next step upward with her first graded win Sunday at Del Mar, capturing the $300,000 Grade 2 Clement L. Hirsch Handicap in a storming finish that brought her victory by a nose.
The win increased the career of the 5-year-old daughter of Unusual Heat to $582,956, making here the top earner of her remarkably successful sire. She overtook Lennyfromalibu's $439,465 total.
The California-bred raced sixth in the first of eight until the turn for home in the 1 1/16-mile event before accelerating and beginning the run that get her the lead in the deep stretch. She then held on gamely to win by a nose over favorite Hollywood Story.
In spite of having placed in stakes in her last three races, including the Grade 3 Desert Stormer Handicap at Hollywood Park, Tucked Away was lightly regarded by bettors and paid a handsome $40.40 to win.
Her victory not only padded the bank accounts of owner Nico Nierenberg, trainer Patrick Gallagher and breeder Madeline Auerbach, it also is certain to have boosted her price if she is sold in the Keeneland sale this November as the Daily Racing Form reports. Her record now shows three stakes wins and placings in eight other added-money races.
Her sire, Unusual Heat, continues to press his claim as one of California's premier sires. His 6-year-old daughter Thermal Ablasion captured the Make Me Conquer Stakes at Delaware Park on Saturday. He's sired five earners of $300,000 or more.
Unusual Heat, sire of 21 earners of $100,000 or more from only 67 starters, stands at Old English Rancho, Sanger, Calif.

If Unusual Heat was bred to the same mares that Storm Cat has been bred to, UH current figures would look anemic.

Yeah louis what are you saying ?

Unusual Heat improves his mares AEI 2.45 CI .89

So if he was bred to mares bred to Storm Cat his figures would be higher

Where do you get anemic from ?

You will see what happens when UH is bred to a better quality book of mares. After talking to Barry Abrams I asked him when will UH get those superior producing mares.

Barry told me UH is now breeding to those blue ribbon producing mares.
UH will produce more GR SW now that he is being bred to those quality mares.

You must remember that UH has accomplished his stats of today with mediocre mares.

Thermal Abrasion and Tucked Away are both out of the same mare, the stakes placed Chemolo, winner of 10 of 22 starts with earnings of nearly $140,000. Hardly a mediocre mare.

Unusually Prepotent - Unusual Heat

Postby fastappy » Mon Aug 15, 2005 11:06 pm

No stallions nationwide comes close to Unusual Heat in progeny earnings of nearly 2 million thus far with only 44 starters, and not having the quality of book that the Kentucky stallions have. Just as a comparision, Kris S (deceased) has 76 starters for 2.4 million with major stakes horse Rock Hard Ten (780K), and Fusaichi Pegasus has 2.6 million with 66 stargers including Roman Ruler (690K). All other stallions in Kentucky or nationwide with earnings above U.H. have books of 87 (Unbridled - Deceased) to 160 Kentucky calibre mares.

Unusual Heat is truly a world class (imho) stallion, standing in Central California. What is especially significant is that his progeny earnings thus far (1.9 million) are not bolstered by a major stakes earner. There is no doubt he can and will produce a major stake calibre horse in the near future.
