His Majesty and Graustark - info required

Can anyone please provide information on (one-time) Darby Dan stallions His Majesty (and/or full brother Graustark)?

Already have stallion-register-type info, i.e. race-record, pedigree, stud record, etc.

What I need (for a book on Great Sires) is some interesting info on the horses' physiques, temperaments, race-day quirks, breeding shed, etc.

Anyone know of any articles or books featuring these two stallions?

James Bester.

hi jbester...James

Quite a task you're taking on..."a book on great sires"...I look forward to hearing some more.

Is there a specific criteria that you are using to define Great? Is there a sire or two that you expect might surprise us, that you consider Great?

Respectfully

Thank you, Parlo - received and much appreciated.
Yes, FOS; actually, I'm just a contributor (of stories on Danehill and His Majesty); the book itself is just about completed and is being published by the team from Australian Bloodhorse Review, the leading breeding magazine in Australia (see site www.stallions.com.au). If you'd like to know more, by all means e-mail [email protected] - he's the publisher.
Louis - I would be very interested to see their nicking patterns; my fax number is +61 2 9387 7472 and my e-mail is [email protected]; thank you for your help.

hi jbester...James

Thanks for the info re: the book to be published.

For what it's worth...in the flesh, His Majesty struck me as quite raw-boned...and not the physical type that in general I would have bred to, but obviously his impact on the breed has been important.

On the other hand...although I never saw Danehill in the flesh...I expect that his qualities as a sire suggest that he might have benefitted (possibly significantly) from the fact that his dam was out of Spring Adieu (who was by Buckpasser and out of Natalma). You might agree...quite a source of quality (to my way of thinking anyway).

Whether it was Danzig...Razyana...His Majesty...Spring Adieu...Buckpasser...Natalma etc etc etc...who might be most instrumental in Danehill's prowess as a sire...it's clear Danehill was VERY special.

Respectfully

I wrote to Darby Dan and they were kind enough to respond and sent me the stallion brochure for Graustark as well as Proud Truth.

Rancho San Antoinio's site has a good bloodlines article about "Graustark - What's Not To Like?"
