Any comments on his progeny at this early stage in the game? Results seem fairly limited.....any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

His results are pretty scary at this point. He stood for $25,000, and has one horse that has made $100,000, and has not sired a stakes winner. He's ranked #28 on the second crop sires, which is very low. He ran at longer distances, but being a son of Storm Cat, you would think that he would sire some better horses than those that have raced so far.

hi chicago78...hi Monmouth Matt

chicago78...a pretty fair commentary (unfortunately for the Cat Thief connections).

I looked at Cat Thief immediately upon his retirement. He was a tall, rangy kinda horse and had a nice frame on him but did not have the bone mass I would have liked seeing. If I had to highlight one particular feature though that I felt might compromise his success as a sire it was his long and VERY fragile pasterns.

I felt that if breeding to him was a consideration, it was necessary to be Extremely selective when choosing a mare for him.

For what it's worth...just a week or so ago, there was a very impressive 2-yo maiden winner at Saratoga out of a very good racemare named Godmother.

That juvenile won with style and might be able to reignite some enthusiasm re: Cat Thief. But I strongly suggest that anyone considering breeding to him should BEWARE...and I recommend...be EXTREMELY selective of the mare.

Respectfully

Thanks..... I've been surprised by his weak showing, but FOS you make a great point on the pasterns. I believe it was Buzz Chace in a Bloodhorse interview that mentioned his dislike of long pasterns. By the way,in doing some homework on the horse,I noticed he has a colt in for $7500 @ Monmouth tomorrow....that 's not a good sign.
