Best-looking...Best-made TBred stallion (or stallions) ever

Postby FOS » Sun Sep 11, 2005 3:08 pm

hi guys

Obviously personal likes...dislikes...opinions...etc etc etc are wide ranging.

Regardless (and pedigree and race record aside)...

...which thoroughbred stallion (or stallions) in your opinion is/are the best looking...best made individual(s) you've ever seen in the flesh.

Sky Mesa. Amazing looking stallion. Turns heads like you would not believe and he knows it!

Haven't seen that many, but Montbrook walks like a king and has tremendous presence; very handsome horse although not perfect in the knees. And Tizbud is extremely elegant and symmetrical, the kind of animal that might make a great show horse sire if he doesn't pan out as a racehorse sire; everything about him screams "Thoroughbred." Wish I knew where he was now since Jubilee Farm (where he stood this year) got sold to a developer.

I did a double take the first time I saw Mesa's conformation photo on the Three Chimneys website. An offhand glance at his photo would make one think Mesa is ready for, "action!!"

Nonetheless, Mesa is a grand looking Stallion.

Defensive Play is without a doubt the best looking TB I have ever laid eyes on. True meaning of the word "STALLION" Ironically I have never bred a mare to him even though he is in my backyard! Go figure.....

Haven't seen that many top sires at stud but I do pay attention to their racing careers. Sometimes it is not that hard to pick a potential good sire on looks and performance (and pedigree).

I have seen Fu Peg at Coolmore in the Hunter Valley for the past three years and he is an awesome beast! If that horse was in the wild he would give some of the other Coolmore boys a bit of attitude. :)

Didn't mind Hawk Wing either.

Zabeel is also a very nice stallion.

From photos etc, I think Buckpasser gets a vote.

hi Flight

In the flesh...Fusaichi Pegasus' neck always appears to be set a bit high in his shoulder (in my opinion anyway).

Soon after his retirement (to Ashford), there were times (I would guess many) that he would have a surcingle in place, and draw reins to set him in a collected frame. He was then driven with long reins. I expect that the intent might be to strengthen the appropriate muscles so that he might carry his neck in a fashion which might reduce the high-headed look.

Have you ever seen the Coolmore crew downunder use the surcingle and draw reins on him?
