Eddington vs Saarland

Postby Derby2004 » Thu Sep 29, 2005 3:08 pm

with eddingtons fee being announced at 20k, i think that leaves the door wide open for Saarland at 10k. Claiborne made a bad move in my opinion. saarland is not only cheaper, but is from a proven family out of a G1 millionaire and could go 1 mile for 1 1/4, not to mention he was a fast 2yo. No, he wasnt a G1 winner, but he did win a G2 and ran 2nd to champion Aldeberan in a G1. I guess that is my own assessment and this of course is not taking physical attributes into it. Has anyone seen these two and what are ya'lls opinion?

My vote is for Saarland although both are very nice.

Saarland's fee was moved up during the 2005 season. At present, his 2006 fee is set to be $20,000.

Both seem rather high... but both will probably get full books.

I haven't heard the stud fee announced for Saarland for 2006, but Hill 'n' Dale had increased his fee to $20K midway through the 2005 season from the original $10K. That fee is confirmed on the website of the farm.

Saarland has been moved to Darby Dan. On their web site it states they are going to go up from 10k, but right now he's listed as TBA for 06. Probably waiting to see what his in foal mares sell for in November. If Eddington is 20k Saarland should be the same as far as i'm concerned. Much better female family.

Saarland is my choice over Eddington with ease. Eddington might have run in the "bigger races", but Saarland had just as much class in my opinion. So much happens in the stud world that I dont hear about til the last minute. I expect Saarland to be at 20k also then. Thats probably where Claiborne got the price was off of Saarland, to keep it competitive. I was expecting 10-15k for Eddington.

hi Derby2004

When you see Eddington in the flesh (assuming you haven't already)...up close and personal...you might have a different opinion. He is some grand...powerhouse son of a gun...WOW.

The word on the street is that Saarland will stand for $12,500 in 2006. Darby Dan purchased a significant part of the horse from Jess Jackson, who sent 60 of his own mares to Saarland in 2005. The other word is that Saarland's 2005 book of mares looked like the book of a $30,000 to $40,000 stallion.

I know I was shut out with 4 mares for various clients prior to Christmas last year; the horse was extremely popular in 2005.

Word on the street is correct Saarland will stand for $12,500 in 2006 with Darby Dan and Lane's End (with the exception of Saint Liam) announcing 2006 stud fees today.
