Mondrian died

Postby Bettina » Sun Oct 02, 2005 4:46 am

Hello,
I have sad news from Germany.

Mondrian (by Surumu) died recently probaly of a heart failure in his paddock. He already had wind problems. He became 19 years old and he survived his 'mom' only a few weeks. His dam Mole died more than 30 years old. I can only remember 2 mares who reached such a grand old age, Pocahontas and Pretty Polly.

Mondrian was a great Racehorse with wins of The German Derby, Grosser Preis v. Baden-Bade,Preis v. Europa all Group I races.

Sadly Mondrian turned out a disappointment as Sire. Besides Well made, who was sold to Ireland as NH-Stallion and Montalban, his only Groupwinners and several Listed winners, he sired nothing of his own ability.

He stood at first at the "Gestut Röttgen", during his last years at "Gestut Trona" for a fee of 1500 Euros. In his last season je just covered 6 mares, with all in foal.

regards, Bettina

Bettina,
Sorry to hear of this, but at least he lived a long time. It is always sad when they go.

How did Montalban do as a BMS? A hit or miss.

Hallo, Louis,
it's much too early to rate Montalban as BMS. He just covered his first book of mares or the next season!

Mondrian himself doesn't seem to be a broodmare sire, he is not listed in the statistics of the "Sportwelt" from 30/09. (28 names are listed).
