Stallions Going Through Keenland Nov.
For any of you looking for a nice regional sire, there are quite a few that might fit that bill going through Keenland November including Deposit Ticket, Flying Chevron, Perfect Vision, JP Hammer, Tizbud, and the well-bred underperforming stud prospects you always see.

Stallions Going Through Keenland Nov.
What's The Scoop on These Stallions? We are looking for one for our NW regional market. Thought an older one who isn't getting as many mares as he used to but was still fertile would fit the bill. He certainly would have a good home with us. Kathie

here is a link to deposit ticket's 2005 farm ad
http://www.pinoaklane.com/subject/thoroughbred.htm
according to it he is owned by overbrook, standing in pennsylvania at pin oak lane. his stats are listed on the ad as well....looks to be decent for regional market. saw somewhere, think it was an article on midatlantic t-bred, that pin oak was getting some new stallions for '06 and was moving others off of their roster to make room.
curious as to what he looks like in person? his picture does not look like it does him justice.
hope he finds a great home

Not connected with Rocking River-just have brought a lot of stallions here and they have been calling me on Deposit Ticket since March-Rocking River has Supremo on the market as well as Sharkey I believe but not positive. They bring something new in every year and Deposit Ticket was sitting out there so they snatched him up.That's the sad part about a regional program like Iowa-there popular for about 2 years and no matter how well they do on offspring their popularity fades quickly.I purchased Commemorate for some clients several years back-1st year covered 65 mares, next year 58,next year 27 - purchased him for another client and covered 50 that year with him, next year 25 and next year 10-he's now living out his days at a very good farm where he is King in Indiana.Another stallion I purchased for a client here was Acaroid-covered 62 his first year here and bought a mare out of Ocala for them the same year I purchased him for $2200 by Empery-mare had a few runners but nothing spectacular but when crossed with Acaroid she hit a 2 year old Stakes Winner in Iowa(win like an $80,000 stakes)-the next year Acaroid bred 12 after hitting 3 stakes horses from his 1st Iowa crop.Kinda the bad thing about regional programs.
The Iowa program has major issues, IMO.
The sales results are up on the ITBOA website now.
The usual - if it's by a Kentucky stallion you're looking at $10,000+. If its buy a Iowa stallion you're lucky to get $1,000 (up to $5,000 if its got other things going for it.) Which is sad because I think there are some nice stallions in Iowa who are producing horses that do hold their own at Prairie Meadows. Look at Queansco... sold for what... $700. And I think there are mares being bred to Iowa stallions that have a lot going for them.
I think, perhaps, people get excited when they see what might be a commercially viable stallion come into the state... but then quickly realize that the only commercially viable Iowa-breds are by Kentucky stallions.
But I think this is the bain of all regional programs. Kinda wish there were more strict requirements for state-bred status in Iowa.

I agree wholeheartedly and I did the mating on the 3rd highest in the sale-the $20,000 Vision And Verse colt out of a mare I claimed for $5000-one consolation I did get was River Ridge-the all time leading breeder in Iowa-there only purchase was a Dignitas filly and Maggie Moss(one of the top 5 owner's in races won nationally purchased a Dignitas colt and filly-she bought the filly for $2500 and it was much better than the Vision And Verse colt(and she even agreed with me and she bought him too). But what also happens in a state like Iowa is when you offer foals by stallions standing in the state-the people that want one usually breed to them-when there sired by the Kentucky stallion-there usually the only one in the state like that.
Just for fun, I did the math on the ITBOA sale (sorry to derail this topic!)
The average price for a horse at the ITBOA sale sired by a resident Iowa stallion was $2,459. If you take out three far outliers, you get $1,742.
The average price for a horse at the ITBOA sale sired by a non-resident Iowa stallion was $7,612.50 (I took out one really junky mare, LoL).
Given, the higher stud fees and the somewhat higher quality of mares (negliable in some) bred to those stallions... but what a HUGE difference!
I guess Maggi was looking at the '04 Politcal WhitxWerra colt that ISU had, but wouldn't go higher than $2,500. It was a disappointment since we sold a much less nice filly out of a less nice mare (though the mare had a better developed Iowa family) for a little over $4,000.
I like how Sandra Rasmussen sends mares to Kentucky, but also sends a good number of mares to resident stallions (including Bravo Bull, it's nice to see she doesn't completely disown him
)

According to the Blood-Horse website, Deposit Ticket will stand next year at Rockin' River Ranch near Winterset, Iowa, so apparently he will not go through KeeNov after all. Glad to see he has a farm that wants him. Deerhound is also headed for Rockin' River.

state bred programs
Sounds like some regional breeders need to take some classes? To flourish a stallion MUST be supported by good mares from his owner in that sort of market to guarantee decent runners out every year. It is hard to argue with success (assuming the could run of course). Another problem is that there aren't that many TB mares in some of these states so if you breed your 5 mares you don't necessarily want the same stallions over and over. You know, 3 commemorates in a herd of 10 might be enough (for example).
I'd be snatching up Tizbud for sure.
