hi guys
Stormy Atlantic looks like he's stepping up to the next level...
...consider this.
He's had a nice and consistent degree of success...then some months ago his G3-winning (and G2-placed) son Indian Ocean looked like he was making a BIG name for himself (in California)...and appeared to be the kind of horse that had G1-caliber written all over him. His future looked bright (maybe an understatement)...but he was unfortunately injured and retired to stud...
...recently Stormy Atlantic's brilliant two-year-old son What's Your Edge seems to have picked up the torch. He is undefeated and 2 for 2 (breaking his maiden at Saratoga first time out then coming back and easily winning, in wire-to-wire fashion, the $200,000 Monmouth Park NATC Futurity by 2+ lengths...going 6 furlongs on the dirt in 1:08 4/5). It was another 10 lengths back to the third place finisher...
...then today, Stormy Atlantic's two-year-old daughter She Says It Best won the G2-Alcibiades (going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt) at Keeneland...also in wire-to-wire to fashion...easily defeating post-time favorite Ex Caelis by a widening 2 1/2 length margin. It was another 2 lengths back to the third-placer finisher...and 14 1/4 back to the fourth place filly (in the field of 11).
I'm seeing horses that are brilliant...and clearly some of the them can go on, and look and act like they might be special.
Certainly the three recent runners named above have some real talent.
Thoughts?

Stormy Atlantic...proving he's worthy of serious attention

FOS, I agree wholeheartedly. I think this is really one to watch. Seems to be siring a lot of talent and may be on the path to siring a really big runner.
My only reservation with him -- purely from an aesthetics standpoint -- is that I really don't like his head.

In my opinion, the family of Stormy Atlantic (the Moccasin branch) is one of the most brilliant in the studbook and obviously the family has produced top sires even if this branch of the family is lesser known for them. I think he has every reason to become a top sire in the next few years and there's a lot to like in getting a daughter by him as well. I remember when everyone was saying his journey to the Bluegrass was a mistake... but he's proving people wrong and doing it well. I wouldnt be surprised to see Bandini carry on this family's legacy in the shed either.

hi austique
At $20,000 I suggest that SA is excellent value...especially knowing that he's got a couple of potential super-star 2-yo's performing right now...plus his first Ky crop will run in 2006.
I expect that if a couple of his current two-year-olds (examples: undefeated stakes-winner What's Your Edge and G2-Alcibiades winner She Says It Best) continue to impress and/or pull-off a G1 win, that the farm might increase his stud fee (pre-2006 or during the 2006 breeding season) to above $20,000.
I expect that the best might be yet to come for both What's Your Edge and She Says It Best...and there might be some other Stormy Atlantics that capture the imagination.
Interesting that What's Your Edge is out of a full sister to the brilliant graded stakes-winning colt Forty One Carats...a two-time track-record setter and earner in exces of $800k.
